Alison Davis-Blake Named Dean of Minnesota's Carlson School
Alison Davis-Blake, the McCombs School’s senior associate dean for
academic affairs, has been named dean of the Carlson School of
Management at the University of Minnesota. When she begins her term at
the Carlson School in July 2006, Davis-Blake will lead as the school’s
first female dean, and she will be the highest-ranking female dean at
any United States business school. Announcing Davis-Blake’s May 2006
departure, McCombs School Dean George Gau said that the school has
benefited from her skill in the critical roles of overseeing the daily
operations of the school and its instructional budget. “Knowing the
school is in such capable hands has enabled me to focus primarily on the
implementation of our strategic objectives and building our external
relationships,” Gau said. “We owe Alison a great deal of gratitude for
the wonderful service she has provided the school.”

companies and nonprofit groups, is attempting to increase that
percentage through Forte Forum: The MBA Value Proposition, a series of

business and personal goals, along with providing career opportunities
and networking time. For a list of events, to learn more and to register

Changes in Crime Analysis May Open New Markets, Says Koehler
While popular TV shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation are drawing
public attention to forensic testing methods including fingerprinting,
fiber comparisons and ballistics, a new paper by McCombs professor Jay
Koehler and Michael Saks of Arizona State University argues that these
traditional models may not live up to the hype. In their controversial
paper, “The Coming Paradigm Shift in Forensic Identification Science,”
the authors claim that a variety of converging legal and scientific
forces, including DNA typing, are driving traditional forensics toward
fundamental change. Koehler, a professor in the department of
information, risk and operations management at the McCombs School of
Business, foresees a slew of financial opportunities arising from this
shift in crime analysis.

in the August 2005 issue tells about his background in the military and
expresses his thoughts about returning to Iraq as a Civil Affairs
