Faculty Profiles: McCombs Welcomes Five New Professors for 2005-2006
This week, McCombs welcomes five new faculty members. Hailing from
academic departments and doctoral programs at Cornell, Kelley, Kellogg,
MIT and Stern, they are a talented group who will have a great effect on
our community.

2005 U.S. News and Forbes Rankings Released
In the “America’s Best Colleges 2006” issue of U.S. News, the McCombs
BBA program ranked No. 5 overall, rising one place over last year’s
rank, and tying with Carnegie Mellon, NYU and UNC-Chapel Hill. McCombs
was also ranked in every undergraduate specialty that U.S. News rated.
In Forbes’ biennial study of MBA programs, McCombs ranked No. 11 in
return on investment among full-time programs, with a 5-year total MBA
gain of $103,000. The McCombs School’s No. 11 ranking in 2005 is up from
No. 16 in 2003.

Former McCombs Dean, UT President and UT System Chancellor Receives
Presidential Citation Award
Dr. William H. Cunningham, former dean of the McCombs School of Business
and former president of The University of Texas at Austin, has been
selected to receive the University’s prestigious 2005 Presidential
Citation Award. Three Presidential Citation recipients were honored
Sept. 14 at the University’s anniversary observance, “The University at
122.”

Martinez Tucker, Mulva to Receive Distinguished Alumni Awards from the
Texas Exes
This year, the Texas Exes will honor two McCombs graduates, Sara
Martinez Tucker and Jim Mulva, with UT Austin’s highest alumni award.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes no more than six alumni each
year who have distinguished themselves professionally and through
service to the University. Martinez Tucker, MBA ’79, is chief executive
officer of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and will be inducted into the
McCombs School’s Hall of Fame in November. Mulva, BBA ’68, MBA ’69, is
the chairman and chief executive officer of ConocoPhillips. Last year,
he was inducted into the McCombs School’s Hall of Fame.

MOOT CORP® Announces New Director: Seasoned Entrepreneur to Run Program
The MOOT CORP® program is now under new leadership. Rob Adams,
management lecturer, was appointed the director of MOOT CORP®, replacing
Dr. Gary Cadenhead, senior management and accounting lecturer. “I cannot
imagine a more qualified person to take over the leadership of the MOOT
CORP® program,” Cadenhead said. Adams, the founder of Tejas Venture
Partners, has been involved with the program since 2000, acting as a
judge in the finals of both the Texas and Global MOOT CORP®
competitions.

Executive Education Offers Courses in Negotiation & Influence Skills
Our very popular Negotiation Skills program has been revised and
expanded to go beyond foundational negotiation principles, incorporating
some of the key challenges faced by managers and executives in today’s
business environment. Participants in this course, to be held on October
17 - 21, will be led through a series of hands-on simulations, designed
to challenge and enhance their negotiation skills. This intensive one-week
program utilizes a variety of cases, role playing exercises and in-class
activities. Participants are encouraged to consider and discuss how the
ideas apply to their own experiences and real-life problems.

World’s First Nanotechnology Conference Held at The University of Texas
The first large-scale civic forum focusing public discussion on the
social impacts of nanotechnology will be held Saturday, October 1 from
9:00 AM to 3:30 PM in UTC 2.112. The STS Civic Forum on the Societal
Implications of Nanotechnology, sponsored by the Science, Technology, &
Society Program at The University of Texas at Austin is a free event
seeking to bring all critical stakeholders together to set standards and
discuss nanotechnology’s societal opportunities and challenges.
