In the News: Brandl Offers Advice
on Teaching Finance to Teens
KXAN, May 17, 2006
In his weekly segment on KXAN’s morning news show,
Michael Brandl, senior finance lecturer at McCombs, talked about
the importance of teaching teens the basics of economics. “When
you look at the education our students are getting in terms of
economics, it’s really not that good,” Brandl said. “Only about
half of American high school students take a class in economics
dealing with personal finance.” Brandl emphasized that teens
should know that the economy is always changing and it operates
on an individual level, not in the abstract. “It really is about
people and the decisions they make day in and day out,” he said.
