The McCombs Staff Holiday Party!
The big event is next Tuesday, Dec. 12. Leading up to the party is a charity drive where, with donations, staff can earn “Gau Bucks” that can be used during the party to win prizes in the auctions and raffle.
Tuesday’s party will kick off with a silent auction that begins at 9:30 and the luncheon and the Holiday Store will open at 11:30, followed by entertainment, door prizes, the announcement of the door decorating contest winners and the live auction. |

whose class participates in the event. Guests will include Red McCombs, Bevo,
superintendents of area schools, elementary and
secondary school students, business professionals and academics.

Holiday Shopping Intensity Increasing

Getting an edge on holiday sales can be a contact sport for
those willing to brave the crowds. Consumer priority has shifted
from bragging about the product to gloating about the labor
involved in its acquisition. “The more suffering that goes into
the purchase, the more valuable the item is perceived to be,”
said Raj Raghunathan, assistant professor of marketing at
McCombs. “This is enhanced even more when you see others
suffering as well in pursuit of the product.”

International Diversity at McCombs

With 30 percent of the full-time MBA class from far-flung locales such as Tokyo, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai
and Mumbai, the Nov. 29 MBA International Night was destined for
success.
Anitesh Barua and Laura Catania Earn 2007 Texas Exes Teaching Awards
Anitesh Barua, IROM professor, and Laura Catania,
marketing teaching assistant at McCombs, were
awarded two of this year’s Texas Exes Teaching Awards. The award
winners, selected annually by students, honor one professor and
one teaching assistant from each school at The University of
Texas at Austin who have significantly and positively impacted
the educational experiences of university students. The winners
will be recognized Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Alumni Center.
Martorana Examines How Individuals Bring About Organizational Changes

U.S. Students in India Double in Number
The Business Standard (India), Dec. 5, 2006
More than 1,700 American students complete their higher education in India—an increase of 52.7 percent compared to the previous year. “Indian students are an integral part of U.S. education, especially our full-time MBA programme. Year after year, Indian students make up 5-8 percent of every class. Hence, we have established the Indian Graduate Business Association (IGBA)
that creates a friendly, welcoming environment for all students
interested in Indian business and culture,” said David Platt, director of the Center for
International Business Education and Research at McCombs.

Land Commissioner Says Texas is a Leader in Wind Industry Innovation

Texas is first in the nation for the production of wind energy, said Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson at a Nov. 30 Energy Technology Group presentation at the McCombs School of Business. The Texas General Land Office manages 12 percent of the state’s land, provides oil and gas drilling rights and recently signed the first lease in the U.S. for offshore wind energy, Patterson said.
