George GauDean Announces New Policy Covering Tobacco Companies
Over the past year there has been a growing concern among McCombs faculty and staff over our schools accepting donations from tobacco companies. There is strong sentiment that it is not ethical for us to continue to accept donations from tobacco companies because those gifts come from revenue generated through the sale of a product that has very damaging health consequences for all consumers of the product. While there are other legal products that can be adverse to a purchaser’s health if misused (such as alcohol), tobacco is different in that it is damaging no matter how used. Recently the McCombs Executive Committee discussed our relationship with these companies and after careful deliberation I have determined that the McCombs School will no longer accept any funds from tobacco companies.

They obviously didnt want transparency.”
