Finalists Compete in Texas Moot Corp
The Texas Moot Corp Competition semifinals were Jan. 23, and four teams advanced to the finals. WeSpeak, GenVasive Biosciences, Fantasy Action Network and qcue, IIc will compete Feb. 6 for the chance to go to the Global Moot Corp Competition in May and win $100,000 to launch their business. Come watch the action unfold. Texas Moot Corp is the world’s original and most lucrative student business plan competition.

Texas Exes Recognizes Business Honors Students
Two business honors students received 2007 Texas Exes awards. Dustin Deas, business honors and finance senior, earned the Texas Parents’ Association Outstanding Student Award, which recognizes academic success, campus-wide activities and evidence of character and integrity. Deas is involved in the Longhorn Band, Tejas Club, Texas Cowboys and the President’s Council. Katherine Brehm, business honors and marketing senior, earned the Presidential Leadership Award, given to students demonstrating character, integrity, leadership qualities and a strong sense of the future. Brehm has been a member of Texas Spirits, Business Council and the BHP Peer Advisors.


Women in Business Leadership Conference: Feb. 8
Each year, Texas MBA students, Texas MBA alumni, and other businesswomen from around the nation convene in Austin for the Women in Business Leadership Conference. This engaging leadership conference allows women to network with other business professionals in their fields, as well as provides opportunities to enhance their personal skill sets. The speaker panels this year will feature successful women who have volunteered to help others unlock their opportunities by discussing their experiences on a variety of topics including entrepreneurship, giving back to the community and advocacy within an organization.

Executive Education: St. Jude Medical Visits Austin for Two-Day Program 
Next week at Executive Education, St. Jude Medical will attend a two-day program taught by McCombs management faculty. This is the second session of a four part program called Leadership Excellence And Development, which was designed in cooperation with McCombs faculty and St. Jude senior leaders. Participants in this annual program were selected on the basis of their aspiration, capability and engagement to make future leadership contributions to the company. Headquartered in St. Paul, Minn., St. Jude Medical is a $3.3 billion medical device company.


Media: Brandl Advises Parents to Teach Kids About Money at Early Age

Michael Brandl, senior finance lecturer, provides some practical advice for parents looking to instill financial responsibility in their children. He suggests you can never start too early in teaching the basics of money management. "We actually have to start talking to our kids about why it's important to save and about why credit can be useful," Brandl said. "But if you over do it, it can also get you into trouble. So you need to start to break through some of those taboos."
