BizIT Winners Cash In

The undergraduate 2008 BizIT Case Challenge culminated Feb. 23 with Driva Consulting taking the title. BizIT cases combine business with information technology and include a business plan, marketing research, financial materials and technology information. The Driva Consulting team consisted of Business Honors students (left to right above) Shruti Rao, Bijal Mehta, Eric Hui and Steven Kennington II. Each will receive a share of the $4,000 prize. The team from Apex Consulting, which was made up of all freshman students, finished in second place, and AltruTech finished third. The prize money for second and third place was $3,000 ($750 per team member) and $2,000 ($500 per team member), respectively. Congratulations are in order to all those who competed.

Maltz Joins McCombs as Director of Development
Mary Ann Maltz recently joined the Development and External Relations office at McCombs as the new director for development. She has worked in development for the past 15 years, at the March of Dimes in Austin, the College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, and most recently at the Dell Children’s Medical Center. With the Development and External Relations office, she will be responsible for coordinating major gift and annual giving efforts on behalf of McCombs. Please welcome Mary Ann!

Campus Ready for Ninth Annual Explore UT
The UT campus will be buzzing with activity Saturday, March 1, when more than 50,000 elementary and middle school students arrive in Austin for Explore UT, the annual outreach event showcasing the university for the people of Texas. Visitors can select from more than 370 free activities designed to inspire a love of learning. Recently Corina Cantu, third-year MPA student, and Celeste Mejia, member of the Hispanic Business Student Association, appeared on the Austin Univision channel to discuss the "Diversity in Business" and "Dress for Success" portions of the event (en español).

2008 Exchange Magazine Now Online
The 2008 issue of Exchange magazine is now online. Top stories include "The Zandan Brand," a profile of McCombs alumnus and visionary entrepreneur Peter Zandan; "An Eye on Design," which examines the importance of great product design; "It's [NOT] Easy Being Green," a look at the emergence of sustainability in the business world and how McCombs alumni are part of the trend; and "Marketing ROI," in which McCombs researchers discuss how marketing executives can prove their worth to a company.
