Austin Wireless Alliance forms

The Austin Wireless Alliance has been formed to promote the wireless industry -- everything from mobile phones to mobile computing -- in Texas and around the world. Austin is home to 85 wireless companies or divisions of companies that are in the wireless industry, according to results of a survey to be released by the IC2 Institute. About 45 of them are devoted exclusively to wireless and the remainder operate divisions dealing with wireless technology. Of the 85, nearly 60 have their company or U.S. headquarters in Austin. The alliance was organized by the Austin Technology Council, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Texas' Wireless Networking and Communications Group and IC2 Institute.
