Tokyo Mobile Roundtable
The first Mobile Roundtable was held in Tokyo, Japan on May 30 and 31, 2002. The venue was Ark Academy Hills, located in central Tokyo (near by the Tokyo Tower), and considered to be ampremium location for executive seminars and retreats at leading Japanese and oversees companies. The conference was free including all the meals and the receptions. The attendees paid for their own travel and lodging. All continents including Africa were represented and the participation was truly global, with nearly equal numbers of attendees from Asia, Europe, and Americas.
One hundred and twenty participants included researchers, practitioners and policy makers. Half of the participants were academics and the other half had positions in industry or government. The academics are invited to the conference based on their short position papers that they submit about six months prior to the conference date.
Through the two-day meeting, research results, including research in progress, as well as experiences and views of practitioners and policymakers were presented and discussed. Have of the time slots in the schedule were devoted to practitioner presentations. The practitioner presentations were mde by high level executives in the companies (Chairman of DoCoMo; General Manager of Nokia, Japan; Head of Strategy at J-Phone).
The mobile roundtable also included a tour of DoCoMo demonstration centers ( a day prior to the start of the conference).
This conference was sponsored by the Hitotsubashi University IIR Mobile Innovation Research Program with funding from leaders in the mobile industry such as Fujitsu, J-Phone, KDDI, NEC, and NTT DoCoMo.
