SBC Ready to Sweep into World of Wi-Fi Internet Access

Telephone giant SBC Communications Inc. is jumping into wireless computer networking in a big way.  The San Antonio-based phone company is scheduled to announce today that it will launch a Wi-Fi Internet-access service, called FreedomLink, this fall that is expected to have hundreds of wireless network "hot spots" in operation in its 13-state service area. It hopes to extend the network to 20,000 hot spots in 6,000 business locations -- such as hotels, airports and convention centers -- by the end of 2006.
