Former Dell executive to direct Wi-Fi Alliance trade group
The Wi-Fi Alliance trade group -- made up of companies including Dell Computer Corp., Intel Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. -- has hired former Dell executive Frank Hanzlik as its managing director, and the operation will be based in Austin. The group promotes the expansion of Wi-Fi, and it also encourages the various makers of Wi-Fi technology to build equipment that works well with everybody else's equipment, reports the statesman. The trade group has about 200 corporate members and about 10 paid staff workers. It works with equipment makers and network operators to promote common rules for such things as customer "roaming" between various wireless networks.
