Dr. Deirdre Mendez is the Assistant Director of the
Center for International Business and Education Research
(CIBER) in the McCombs School of Business at the
University of Texas at Austin. In this role, she assists
in the development of McCombs programs that increase
international experience and expertise in the U.S.
business community.
Prior to coming to UT in 2005, Dr. Mendez was a
corporate strategist for US companies doing business in
foreign markets. A Ph.D. in sociolinguistics, she
founded Austin, Texas-based Foreign Business Management
Consultants in 1986. She has nineteen years’ experience
creating international market penetration strategies for
US technology companies. FBMC’s client list includes 3M,
Advanced Micro Devices, Tandem Computers, Dell Computer
Corp. and International SEMATECH.
Dr. Mendez has led several initiatives to create an international
strategy for Austin. She has led statewide business missions to
overseas destinations and assisted Austin’s political leadership in
forging ties with foreign governments. She has also published on
Austin’s technopolis creation and advises international technopolis
development projects. Deidre Mendez has been a pioneer in the
internationalization of Central Texas. Founder of the Greater Austin
International Coalition, she has also served as a member of the City
of Austin’s Mayor’s Task Force on International Infrastructure, and
is a member of the board of directors of the International Center of
Austin and the Founders Advisory Council of WCIT2006.
