Manuscript Editing Service for McCombs Faculty Research Papers
The Manuscript Editing Service is to assist tenure-track faculty members in improving the readability and presentation style of research manuscripts that are nearly ready for submissions to academic journals or managerial outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, or California Management Review. A McCombs faculty member will be the sole point of contact for questions regarding the manuscript. The focus of this service is to improve the organization and presentation of manuscripts. The manuscript should be complete, properly formatted, and close to submission, and the faculty member must carefully proof-read the document before submission. The editors can provide advice on the flow of ideas, redundancies, ambiguities, sentence construction, and so on; they are not expected to provide detailed corrections of punctuation, grammar, and formatting. (If this service is requested, the editor must include the services outside this program in their quote in order for the procurement team to obtain approval and an account number from the faculty member.)
- Editorial services are limited to two rounds per paper – one consultation prior to the first submission of the paper, and one (if necessary) after a major revision. If there is a second revision, the editor must contact the procurement team at McCombs School of Business in order to obtain the approved paperwork prior to the start of services.
- Editors will only review and provide feedback on the abstract and the main text of the paper. They will not review the bibliography or Appendices, although these sections may be included in the manuscripts submitted for editing. The authors are responsible for checking these sections for completeness and accuracy.
- Faculty members should plan for an editing turnaround time of around two weeks, i.e., manuscripts must be submitted for editing well in advance of any journal submission deadlines.
- The manuscript should be submitted either as a Microsoft Word file or PDF document. Faculty members should provide a brief summary of the issues they would like the editor to address. Faculty members must select two editors from the selection list so that if the first choice is not available, we will contact the second choice. If neither are available to work on the project within the desired time frame, we will contact other editors to complete the project. If you have an editor you would like to use or be a part of this manuscript editing service, please enter the info in the “add an editor” portion of the submission screen.
- Faculty will submit their manuscripts electronically to the MSB Manuscript Editing Service procurement team who will then work with the editor chosen to obtain a quote specific to the job submitted. Once the procurement team has the appropriate approved purchasing document, they will contact the editor to begin editing the manuscript.
- When the services are completed, the editor will submit an invoice which will be reviewed/approved by the faculty member and the Associate Dean for Research.
- Please be reminded that services may not begin until the editor has received the approved purchase order/contract/AIS.
