Byron Henry

Dr. Henry is joining us as a Lecturer in Accounting this term.  He currently serves as a subject matter expert in accounting for several organizations as well as hold adjunct faculty positions at several institutions.  Prior to these current actvities, he served as the Program Director of the Master of Accounting Program at Norwich University.  He has also served as an Associate Professor of Accounting at Houston Baptist University (2019-2020) and Stevenson University (2018-2019).  He previously served as an Associate Professor and the Acting Chair in the Department of Accounting in the School of Business at Howard University.  His experiences in higher education span over 25 years.  He has published research in the areas of state and local taxation and accounting education and presented numerous papers on a wide array of accounting topics.  His research interests include accounting and reporting issues affecting nonprofit organizations as well as the ethical practices and perceptions of accountants. 

Dr, Henry has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in accounting through both face-to-face and online delivery systems.  He strongly believes that learning is best achieved by doing and emphasizes problem-based learning in his courses to strengthen the development of critical thinking skills among his students.

Dr. Henry holds degrees in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, George Washington University and Texas A&M University.  He is licensed to practice as a certified public accountant (CPA) in Texas and Maryland.  Prior to his service in academia, he held professional positions with Ernst & Whinney, the Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts and the Texas State Auditor’s Office and has professional and community affiliations with the Texas and Maryland Societies of CPAs, the American Accounting Association, and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA).
