Carl Forrest is an engineering manager with Apple Inc. and teaches a course on business intelligence at The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. His class introduces students to data visualization best practices and offers them a conceptual overview of data architecture, pipelining, and data literacy. Forrest seeks to provide a theoretical foundation and framework for thinking about data so students can become solid practitioners.

He has more than a decade of experience in business intelligence and analytics that quantify consumer behavior, translating complex data into actionable business strategy. Before joining Texas McCombs, Forrest taught more than 300 analysts and engineers in effective data visualization. His experience includes recruiting, hiring, and training.

Forrest has worked for BigCommerce, Nielsen, Quantcast, and Comscore. He was part of the team that helped with the Amazon acquisition of Whole Foods Market and was a leader of Quantcast’s ATX Campaign Analytics team. Forrest’s team won Best Analytical Tool & Insight at the 2016 Quantcast Hackathon.

He is also the co-founder of DataSetGo, for which he sold his comic book collection to fund its startup. Forrest has an M.A. in international commerce and policy from George Mason University and a B.A. in computational linguistics from Virginia Commonwealth University.
