Diwakar Gupta is a professor for The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business, teaching in the Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management.

Gupta’s research bridges engineering and business. Recent research focuses on ways to improve health care operations and management, from scheduling and staffing operating rooms to procuring transplant organs. He also has examined vaccine procurement contracts for developing countries and the use of data to track post-transplant renal function in older- donor kidneys.

Gupta was previously at the University of Minnesota, where he taught courses and conducted research in industrial and systems engineering and in mechanical engineering. He was an affiliate senior member of the graduate faculty in health services, policy, and administration in the university’s School of Public Health. Before that, Gupta was a program director in the National Science Foundation’s Service, Manufacturing, and Operations Research Program.

Gupta holds a Ph.D. in management sciences from the University of Waterloo, an M.A. Sc. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Windsor, and a B.Tech. in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.
