Harmony Luce

Harmony Luce is a lecturer in The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. He teaches undergraduate data science courses within the school’s Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management.

A respected teacher, Luce served as an academic consultant for mathematics in an academic institute in the Philippines and as a teaching assistant in the Department of Statistics at Western Michigan University, where he received a Department-Level Graduate Teaching Effectiveness Award.

He has also worked as a business analyst for a telecommunications account in a business process outsourcing company, where he earned Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.

Luce’s dissertation was on functional generalized linear mixed models, which are an extension of generalized linear mixed models in functional data analysis. In these models, instead of scalar vectors, the fixed and random effects can be smooth curves or functions.

He earned a B.S. in mathematics with specialization in business applications from De La Salle University and a Ph.D. in statistics from Western Michigan University.
