In the afternoon we
went to Banco Do Brazil. This was interesting for the way in which the
organization has to walk the tightrope between operating as a private entity
and as an agent of the Brazilian government. The Brazilian government is
the majority owner of the bank and on occasion forces the bank to purchase
public debt when the market doest absorb it all. (Chris T.)
Very nice, friendly
people. Surprisingly young for their positions – although we were warned
that this would be the case before we came to South America. (Chris T.)
Over 80% of banking
transactions in Brazil are done electronically at ATMs or via Internet (Sonal)
During the afternoon,
we went to Banco do Brasil. As a former banker, I had high expectations for
this visit, and the presenters did not let me down at all. I would strongly
recommend that future practicum projects be engaged with this company.
Every single question was clearly and concisely answered and the
presentation was very well organized covering the major lines of business of
the bank. By far, the best company visit during the trip. (Enrique)
