Austin, the state capital of Texas and home to the University of Texas still maintains the idiosyncratic, local charm of a small town while also providing the excitement of a modern, cosmopolitan center.  In addition to various historic sites to explore (Austin was once the capital of the Republic of Texas), it is also the live music capital of the world as well as a well-known winter training center for competition bicyclists.  There are also numerous high technology electronics, software, and manufacturing centers to visit.  Dell Computers is headquartered in the Austin area known as the Silicon Hills, which is the second largest concentration of electronics firms in North America.
