Dr. Prabhudev Konana is Professor  of Information Management, Distinguished Teaching Professor, William H. Seay Centennial Professors in Business, and Assistant Director for Center for Research in Electronic Commerce (CREC) at the McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas at Austin.  He received his MBA and Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1991 and 1995, respectively. He has an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Karnataka Regional Engineering College, India.  

Research Interests

His research interests are in business value of IT, virtual communities, outsourcing and offshoring. His earlier  work focused on the design of electronic brokerages with primary focus in financial trading. He is also interested in understanding of the impact of IT on developing countries. Awards

Prabhudev is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers,  the highest teaching award at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a recipient of several research awards and grants. He received the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award ($295,438), NSF Information Technology Research grant ($499,996) (with Balasubramanian and Rajagopal), Information Systems Research journal's Best Paper award for 2007, ICIS best paper runner up award, and CBA Foundation Research Excellence Award. He has also received grants from IBM, Intel, and Dell.  

He has received many teaching excellence awards including Hank and Mary Harkin Foundation Award for Effective Teaching in Undergraduate Teaching, El Paso Energy Foundation Teaching Excellence award, Trammell/CBA Foundation Teaching Excellence award, and Elective Faculty Honor Roll, McCombs School of Business.  He has been consistently selected for Faculty Honor Roll (2007, 2008, 2009) from the Undergraduate Business Council for excellent teaching ratings. He has been nominated by MBA students for outstanding MBA core faculty and faculty with outstanding ability to connect business with academics. He received the “Most Challenging Class” and “Most Looked Forward to Class” awards from Management Information Systems Association (MISA), Spring 2000.

Teaching

Prabhudev currently teaches Strategies for Networked Economy for MBAs and the Introductory Information Technology Management for Business Honors Program. He earlier taught E-Business systems development and database management. He created and led a successful global program on India. He has conducted several executive seminars on Internet economy, Internet strategy, Supply-chain management, wireless commerce, B2B procurement and data warehouse for managers in chemical, healthcare, semiconductor, retail, and utility industries in the U.S., Singapore, China, Finland, and India.
