Who can use the resources, support, and equipment of Media Services?

We support all classes held in the Business Complex (CBA, GSB, UTC) during business hours (7:45am-6:15pm). All other services are limited to students that are enrolled in the Business School. Students in other majors who are taking one business course still enjoy full support during their business classes, but otherwise have limited to no access to our services.

Getting started with Wireless:

Before you can actually use the Business Complex's wireless network, you need to identify yourself to the network. This is a University Mandated process; to do so follow these steps:

  1. Plug in your wireless card and ensure you get a signal.
  2. See if you get an IP Number, Note: you will not be able to talk to any other machines at this point.
  3. Open your Web Browser and you will be automatically redirected to the UTEID logon page.
  4. Once you have been validated by this logon method your IP will be added to the routing tables and your machine will be able to communicate on the network for a period of two hours, at the end of which your IP will be removed from the routing tables and your machine will cease to communicate. You can periodically re-authenticate by going to the same site you initially went to and re-enter your UTEID and password.

What kinds of computer systems and screen resolutions do you support?

All of our projectors have native resolution of 1024 X 768, setting your computer to this resolution will give you the best picture quality.
We support any computer system that displays in 640 x 480 (VGA), 800 x 600 (SVGA); 1024 x 768 (XGA) and 1280 X 1024 (SXGA). All projection equipment adjusts itself to the resolution provided from the computer, no adjustment from the user should be necessary. If you do experience problems with the projector, try setting your screen resolution to 1024X768 and set your refresh rate to 60Hz.

The bulb in my overhead projector is burned out almost every class session. Couldn't you check my overhead before class?

Overhead bulbs have an average lifetime of 30 to 50 hours. This depends on several factors: how frequently the projector is turned on and off, the brightness selector: set on high or low? the humidity of the environment projector cool-down time: enough time to cool or just unplugged while hot? You should note that every projector has a backup bulb which the user can activate by turning the bulb selector on the right under the little flap (then close the flap because the projector won't work with it open). It is very important that you drop a note at our office or give us a call regarding this lamp switch, because your fellow faculty members will not have the convenience of a back-up bulb any longer. We have 52 classrooms; checking every projection unit every day would cost us approximately 3 1/2 hours and would not guarantee that the bulbs will work at your class because 85% of bulbs burn out at the moment you try to turn them on (startup surge). Please report a broken bulb as soon as you can; we have a technician in the morning who responds to all reports received before 5:00 PM the previous day.
