Laptop Screen Resolution
Setting Laptop Screen Resolution for Dual Screen (Digital Projector) Use
To have your laptop screen present accurately on a digital projector, you will need to set your laptop's screen resolution to 1024x768. Here are the instructions for doing this on Dell laptops with the COE. Different video cards on the laptops have different instructions, so after you have navigated to the "Settings" window as described below, look for the name of the video card (under "Display:") that you have and use the instructions for that card.

01. Connect the digital projector video cable to your laptop.

03. Right-click on your laptops' desktop
and go to "Properties"
04. In the "Properties" window click on the "Settings" tab
05. In the "Settings" window click on the "2" screen to select it and un-check the option to "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"
06. In the same window, click on the "1" screen to select it and then click "Advanced" to get to the "(Multiple Monitors)" window as shown below
07. Click on the "nView" tab to get to the window with the Golden Gate Bridge on it
08. Click on the "Clone" button, hit "Apply," and you will get a "Display Settings" confirmation window. Hit "OK"
09. You should then get a confirmation window asking if you want to save the settings, click "Yes"
10. Now select the "1" screen and set the resolution to 1024x768. Click "Apply"
11. On your laptop hit the Function (fn) key and the F8 key at the same time until your laptop's display is mirrored on the digital projector. At this time both screens should be displaying the correct 1024x768 resolution.
12. These settings should now be set permanently for dual-screen projection. Whenever you hit the "fn-F8" keys it should remember the correct resolution. Additionally, when you go back to a single-screen situation your laptop should revert to your standard resolution settings.
