Multimedia Desk Interface
This is a new interface for this room, please print a copy to familiarize yourself (use "Landscape" paper orientation for best results.)

CAPABILITIES
Computer Projection, Multimedia Desk/Lectern.
WHERE ARE THE CONTROLS?
On the top right side of the desk there is a black interface screen, touch the screen and it will turn on.
LAPTOP COMPUTER PROJECTION
Connect the desk's VGA cable (attached to the desk under the black plate at the top rear of the desk) to the VGA port of your laptop computer. Turn on your computer, press the Projector On, and PC buttons on the desk's touch screen.
The desk also has Computer audio and Ethernet cables, as well as two AC outlets. NOTE: Before using any application that accesses the University network through either a public Ethernet or wireless port, you must first open an internet browser application and login to the page that you are automatically directed to with your UTEID. WHERE IS THE VIDEO PLAYER?
On the left rear of the desk is a DVD/CD player and a VCR. The controls for these units are available on the desk's touch screen.
Desk/Lectern Capabilities
I WANT A LECTERN, NOT A DESK!
On the touch screen push Lectern Up until the desired desk height is reached.
I WANT A DESK, NOT A LECTERN!
On the touch screen push Lectern Down until the desired desk height is reached.

Laptop Cable Connection
  • The desk has built-in PC Audio and VGA video cables to connect your laptop to the LCD Projector, and an Ethernet cable to connect it to the UT network and internet.
  • Connect the desk's VGA cable (attached to the desk under the black plate at the top rear of the desk) to the VGA port of your laptop computer. Turn on your computer, press the Projector On, and PC buttons on the desk's touch screen.
Video Projection
PROJECTOR ON
Turns on both projectors (dual screen projection.)
PROJECTOR OFF
Turns off both projectors.
PROJECTOR BLANK
Blanks the image on the projection screen, so that the audience cannot see the projected image temporarily (e.g. when making a change or entering data which is not to be observed by the audience, or to blank the display before a test.) This button will not turn the projector off.
Source Selection
  • Press the Projector On and then the source button that you wish to use.
  • The Laptop PC and Document Cameras can be displayed independently on either projector or simultaneously on both screens. Any other source will always display on both projectors.
  • There are additional instructions for the VHS, DVD, CD, Doc Cam and Auxiliary sources further down this page.

PC
Selects the Laptop PC input to be displayed on either the left or right projector, to display it on both screens, push the Left PC button and then the Right PC button.
DOC CAM
Selects the VZ-9 Visualizer document camera input to be displayed on either the left or right projector, to display it on both screens,
push the Left Doc Cam button and then the Right Doc Cam button.
VHS
Selects the built-in VCR to be displayed on both screens. This button also brings up the VCR controls in the center of the touch panel interface.
DVD
Selects the built-in DVD player to be displayed on both screens.
This button also brings up the DVD controls in the center of the touch panel interface.
CD
Selects the built-in DVD/CD player, this setting is for audio only, you can leave the projectors off.
This button also brings up the CD controls in the center of the touch panel interface.
AUXILIARY
Selects the two front panel RCA inputs, the silver input is for video (adapter available at the Media Services office) and the white input is for audio. The auxiliary signal can be recorded on the built-in VCR as well as displayed on both screens. (e.g. a video camera recording an experiment)
This button also brings up the VCR controls in the center of the touch panel interface for recording purposes.

Lights

WHITEBOARD SPOTS - SIDES
These spotlights illuminate the whiteboards below the projection screens.
WHITEBOARD SPOTS - CENTER
These spotlights illuminate the center whiteboards, between the projection screens.
LECTERN SPOT
These controls adjust the brightness of the spotlights illuminating the lectern.
MAIN LIGHTS
These controls adjust the fluorescent ceiling lights. Briefly pushing Dim will turn off the front row lights and dim all of the other lights by about 5%, reducing the glare on the screens but still leaving the audience area fully illuminated. Holding the Dim button down longer will reduce the overall brightness in the audience area. Release the button when the desired brightness level is reached. Adjustments to brighten the room can be made by pushing and holding the Bright button. When full brightness has been reached the front row lights will come on again. Pushing the All On button has the same effect as holding down the Bright button.

Volume, Microphone, Screen and Lectern Controls
VOLUME
These controls adjust the overall volume for the PC, DVD, VCR and Auxiliary sources. Additional volume adjustments for your laptop PC may be done on the computer itself.
MICROPHONE
The Microphone sensitivity can be adjusted with these controls; the Volume is adjusted with the Volume controls.
SCREEN
Lowers and raises the Projection Screen (which can be used for overhead projection) in the center of the room. To stop the screen at any point, press the button again.
LECTERN
Raises and lowers a section of the Lectern to convert it from a stand-up Lectern to a desk, and back.
DVD Controls
  • There are two screens to control DVD use. The uppermost screen on the right appears inset within the main interface when the DVD source button is pressed. The lower screen on the right appears full screen when the video image is pressed on the touch screen, and it has advanced controls for the DVD player. To return to the main interface screen, press the video image again.

DVD INSTRUCTIONS
To operate the DVD source, Insert your DVD disk into the player and press the Projector On and DVD buttons on the main interface. The DVD can take up to a minute to load so please be patient.
DVD CONTROLS - Inset Screen Interface
Press the triangular play button to play the DVD. The square button stops the DVD, the button with two vertical lines pauses the DVD, the arrow buttons with vertical lines skip to the next or previous movie chapter, and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the DVD. The Select button selects the DVD option that is highlighted.
DVD CONTROLS - Full Screen Interface
Press the video image on the touch screen to bring up the full screen interface. Press the triangular play button to play the DVD. The square button stops the DVD, the button with two vertical lines pauses the DVD, the arrow buttons with vertical lines skip to the next or previous movie chapter, and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the DVD. The triangular arrow buttons in the North, South, East and West positions navigate through a DVD disk's menu options. The Enter button selects the DVD option that is highlighted. The Menu button returns to a DVD disk's main menu. The Projector Blank button toggles the display from the projector on and off (e.g. for cueing a DVD) but does not turn the projector itself off.  The Subtitles button brings up the subtitles menu, repeatedly pushing the button cycles through your available language options.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons for adjustment.

ERROR EXPLANATIONS
An icon shaped like a white circle with a red diagonal line through it indicates that the DVD player accepted the command that you issued, but the DVD disk does not allow it's execution. (e.g. trying to skip the FBI warning on a movie.)
"No Disk" indicates that the DVD player cannot recognize the disk. Try ejecting and re-inserting the DVD disk.

CD Controls
  • There are two screens to control CD use. The uppermost screen on the right appears inset within the main interface when the CD source button is pressed. The lower screen on the right appears full screen when the video image is pressed on the touch screen, and it has advanced controls for the CD player. To return to the main interface screen, press the video image again.

CD PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS
Insert the CD into the player and press the CD button on the touch screen. The CD can take up to a minute to load so please be patient.
CD PLAYER CONTROLS
Press the triangular play button to play the CD. The square button stops the CD, the double arrow buttons fast-forward and rewind the CD, the button with two vertical lines pauses the CD, the Prev. Song and Next Song buttons skip to the previous or next track, and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the CD.
PROJECTOR BLANK
Blanks projector temporarily.

VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons for adjustment.

VHS Tape Controls
  • There are two screens to control the VCR for VHS tape use. The uppermost screen on the right appears inset within the main interface when the VHS source button is pressed. The lower screen on the right appears full screen when the video image is pressed on the touch screen, and it has advanced controls for the VHS tape player. To return to the main interface screen, press the video image again.

VHS TAPE INSTRUCTIONS
To operate the VHS tape source, Insert your VHS tape into the desk's VCR and press the Projector On and VHS buttons on the main interface.
VCR CONTROLS
Press the triangular play button to play the tape. The square button stops the tape, the double arrow buttons fast-forward and rewind the tape, the button with two vertical lines pauses the tape and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the VHS tape.
TOGGLE TIMER DISPLAY
This button toggles the onscreen timer display through 3 states: Off, Time that the tape has been playing, and Remaining time.
PROJECTOR BLANK
This button toggles the display from the projector on and off (e.g. for cueing a tape) but does not turn the projector itself off.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons for adjustment.

Doc Cam Controls
"VZ-9 VISUALIZER" DOC CAM OPERATION

SETTING UP
The top illustration on the right demonstrates how to pull the Doc Cam into its working position. The light gray tab next to the arrow in the picture is the Pull Pad, and the Doc Cam will turn on automatically when the arm is full extended, and the camera head has been rotated up.
If you have turned the unit on but you do not see your image, make sure that the EXT/INT light (see button #7 below) is OFF.

SLIDE USE
Rotating the camera head so that the lens is aimed at the slide light field (the slide-sized white rectangle towards the rear of the unit in the top illustration on the right) will set the camera to Slide. The Zoom will auto zoom to the slide size. To use the camera with a document again, gently rotate the head until you feel a slight click, this is the optimized position for document projection. The Zoom will return to your last zoom setting.

VISUALIZER BUTTONS
(refer to second illustration on right)
1. LIGHT BUTTON
Located on the right side of the base and towards the back, the light button switches between top light, slide light field and light off. The LIGHT button also works as One Push White Balance key if pressed for 2 seconds.
2. POWER BUTTON
The Doc Cam in GSB 2.124 will automatically turn on when it's camera arm has been extended, however this button which is located on the right side of the base and towards the back will manually switch the unit on and off.
3. ZOOM WHEEL
The ZOOM WHEEL can be found on the camera head. Holding the zoom wheel lightly down will zoom closer to your object, and holding it lightly up will zoom out from your object. The more you turn the ZOOM WHEEL, the faster the unit will zoom in or out.
4. MANUAL FOCUS BUTTONS
When the Manual FOCUS keys are pressed the Visualizer switches off the autofocus function. Using the Auto focus button switches the autofocus function on again.
5. AUTO FOCUS (AF) BUTTONS
Switches the auto focus on and off. The AF light indicates if the AF is switched on.
6. FREEZE BUTTONS
Freezes the current image. The FREEZE light indicates if the FREEZE mode is activated.
7. EXT/INT BUTTON
Switches between the Doc Cam image and an external input. The EXT/IN light indicates that a signal from the external input is being displayed. If the unit is on, but you are not using an external source and you do not see your image, make sure that the EXT/INT light is OFF.

Visualizer Buttons

AUX (Auxiliary Input) Controls
  • There are two screens to control AUX use. The uppermost screen on the right appears inset within the main interface when the Aux source button is pressed. The lower screen on the right appears full screen when the video image is pressed on the touch screen, and it has advanced controls for the Aux source. To return to the main interface screen, press the video image again.

AUXILIARY SOURCE HOOKUP
The Auxiliary button selects the two front panel RCA inputs, the silver input is for video (adapter available at the Media Services office) and the white input is for audio. Hook your auxiliary source (such as a video camera) into these inputs.

AUXILIARY SOURCE INSTRUCTIONS

Operate your auxiliary input source (such as a video camera) as you normally would and the signal from it should be displayed on the room's LCD projector screen.

VCR RECORDING CONTROLS
The auxiliary signal can be recorded on the built-in VCR as well as displayed on both screens. (e.g. a camera recording an experiment) The initial Auxiliary button press brings up the VCR controls in the center of the main touch panel interface. Press the round record button to record your auxiliary source's input. The square button stops the tape, the double arrow buttons fast-forward and rewind the tape, the button with two vertical lines pauses the tape and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the VHS tape.
TOGGLE TIMER DISPLAY
Press this button to display or hide the tape information on screen.
PROJECTOR BLANK
This button toggles the display from the projector on and off (e.g. for setting up a shot) but does not turn the projector itself off.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons for adjustment.
