 Multimedia Lectern Interface
CAPABILITIES
 Multimedia Lectern, Dual-screen Computer Projection, Document Camera, DVD/CD Player, VCR/Auxiliary Playback, Wireless Microphone, Custom Lighting.
WHERE ARE THE CONTROLS?
 On the top left side of the lectern there is a computer interface screen, touch the screen and it will turn on.
LAPTOP COMPUTER PROJECTION
 Connect the lectern's VGA cable (attached to the lectern under the black plate at the top rear of the lectern) to the VGA port of your laptop computer. Turn on your computer, press the Projection ON, and PC buttons on the lectern's touch screen.
The lectern also has Computer audio and Ethernet jacks, as well as two AC outlets. NOTE: Before using any application that accesses the University network through either a public Ethernet or wireless port, you must first open an internet browser application and login to the page that you are automatically directed to with your UTEID. WHERE IS THE VIDEO PLAYER?
On the left side of the lectern there are DVD/CD and VHS players, the controls are available on the lectern's touch screen.
RED PHONE
There is a red phone available on the wall below the screens that directly contacts Media Services. Please use this phone if you have any questions or difficulties.
 Video Projection
PROJECTION ON
 Turns on projector(s). While the projector starts up, the Projection OFF button may be blanked out for up to two minutes.
PROJECTION OFF
Turns off projector(s). The projector will wait two minutes before it can be turned on again after it has been turned off.
SOURCE BLANK
Blanks out the image on the projection screen(s), so that the audience cannot see the projected image temporarily (e.g. when making a change or entering data that you do not want the audience to see, or to blank the display before a test.) This button will not turn the projector off.
FORMAT
Changes the video projector from Normal to Widescreen mode.
 Source Selection

Press the Projection ON  button(s) and then the source button(s) that you wish to use.

BLANK
Temporarily blanks out the image on the projection screen(s.)

COMPUTER
Selects the Laptop PC input to be displayed on the screen.
DOC CAM
Selects the ceiling-mounted document camera input to be displayed on the screen.
DVD/CD
Selects the built-in DVD/CD player to be displayed on the screen, this button also brings up the DVD/CD controls in the center of the touch panel interface.
VCR/AUX
Selects the built-in VCR to be displayed on the screen, this button also brings up the VCR controls in the center of the touch panel interface.
Pressing the Use Auxiliary Input button on the VCR/AUX screen brings up the Auxiliary Controls screen and enables the RCA inputs located under the DVD/CD slot.
Computer Cable Connection and Controls

The lectern has built-in power outlets, PC Audio and Ethernet (UT network and internet access) jacks, and a built-in VGA video cable to connect your laptop to the LCD Projector.

COMPUTER INSTRUCTIONS

To connect your laptop computer, simple plug in the lectern's VGA cable (supplied under the black plate on the top of the lectern) to the VGA port of your laptop computer. There is another VGA connector available under the plate as an alternate in case the attached cable breaks. If two laptops are connected to the Lectern's VGA ports, the fixed port will override the cable version. If you have audio in your presentation you will also need to connect a PC audio cable (PC Audio and Ethernet cables are available for checkout from Media Services.)

COMPUTER CONTROLS

Turn on your computer, press the Projection ON, and Computer buttons on the lectern's touch screen. If your laptop's screen appears on the room's screen you are ready to go, if not, you may need to mirror your laptop's screen onto the projector. To do this on a Dell computer, hit the FN and F8 keys at the same time until you see your laptop content on the screen. Hitting FN-F8 successively will scroll through the available viewing choices. On a Mac the F7 button toggles between mirrored and dual screen after an external display has been detected. The command to mirror your laptop's screen may be different on other manufacturer's computers, if you have any questions please consult this PDF chart.

 The Format button on the lectern's interface changes the video projector's display from Normal to Widescreen mode.

DOC CAM INSTRUCTIONS
The "Setting Up" illustration on the right demonstrates how to pull the Doc Cam into its working position. The light gray tab next to the arrow in the picture is the Pull Pad which when lifted will turn the Doc Cam on automatically.
If you have turned the unit on but you do not see your image, make sure that the EXT/INT light (see button #7 below) is OFF.

SLIDE USE
Rotating the camera head so that the lens is aimed at the slide light field (the slide-sized white rectangle towards the rear of the unit in the top illustration on the right) will set the camera to Slide. The Zoom will auto zoom to the slide size. To use the camera with a document again, gently rotate the head until you feel a slight click, this is the optimized position for document projection. The Zoom will return to your last zoom setting.

DOC CAM CONTROLS
The document camera can be controlled through either the lectern's interface screen, or by the buttons on the unit itself.

DOC CAM SCREEN

The Camera buttons turn the Doc Cam on and off. The Focus buttons manually focus the Doc Cam, the Zoom buttons zoom in/out on the document, and the Auto Focus button will automatically focus the Doc Cam. The Light button controls the Doc Cam's onboard light.

DOC CAM BUTTONS
(Refer to the "Doc Cam Buttons" illustration on right)
1. LIGHT BUTTON
Located on the right side of the base and towards the rear, the light button switches between top light, slide light field and light off. The LIGHT button also works as One Push White Balance key if pressed for 2 seconds.
2. POWER BUTTON
The Doc Cam will automatically turn on when it's camera arm has been extended, however this button which is located on the right side of the base and towards the back will manually switch the unit on and off.
3. ZOOM WHEEL
The ZOOM WHEEL can be found on the camera head. Holding the zoom wheel lightly down will zoom closer to your object, and holding it lightly up will zoom out from your object. The more you turn the ZOOM WHEEL, the faster the unit will zoom in or out.
4. MANUAL FOCUS BUTTONS
When the Manual FOCUS keys are pressed the Doc Cam switches off the autofocus function. Using the Auto focus button switches the autofocus function on again.
5. AUTO FOCUS (AF) BUTTONS
Switches the auto focus on and off. The AF light indicates if the AF is switched on.
6. FREEZE BUTTONS
Freezes the current image. The FREEZE light indicates if the FREEZE mode is activated.
7. EXT/INT BUTTON
Switches between the Doc Cam image and an external input. The EXT/IN light indicates that a signal from the external input is being displayed. If the unit is on, but you are not using an external source and you do not see your image, make sure that the EXT/INT light is OFF.

 DVD/CD Controls

DVD INSTRUCTIONS
To operate the DVD source, Insert your DVD disk into the player on the left side of the lectern and press the Projection ON and DVD/CD buttons on the main interface. The DVD can take up to a minute to load so please be patient.
DVD CONTROLS
Press the triangular play button to play the DVD. The square button stops the DVD, the button with two vertical lines pauses the DVD, the arrow buttons with vertical lines skip to the next or previous movie chapter, and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the DVD.
The triangular arrow buttons in the North, South, East and West positions navigate through a DVD disk's menu options. The Select button selects the DVD option that is highlighted. The Menu button returns to a DVD disk's main menu. The Subtitles button brings up the subtitles menu, repeatedly pushing the button cycles through your available language options.

 

CD PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS
Insert the CD into the DVD/CD player on the left side of the lectern and press the DVD/CD button on the touch screen. The CD can take up to a minute to load so please be patient.
CD PLAYER CONTROLS
Press the triangular play button to play the CD. The square button stops the CD, the double arrow buttons fast-forward and rewind the CD, the button with two vertical lines pauses the CD, the triangular buttons with vertical lines skip to the previous or next track, and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the CD.


SOURCE BLANK
Blanks the projector temporarily.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume.
ERROR EXPLANATIONS
An icon shaped like a white circle with a diagonal line through it indicates that the DVD player accepted the command that you issued, but the DVD disk does not allow it's execution. (e.g. trying to skip the FBI warning on a movie.)
"No Disk" indicates that the DVD player cannot recognize the disk. Try ejecting and re-inserting the DVD disk.
VCR/AUX Controls

VCR INSTRUCTIONS
 To operate the VCR source, Insert your VHS tape into the player on the left side of the lectern and press the Projection On and VCR buttons on the main interface.
VCR CONTROLS
Press the triangular play button to play the tape. The square button stops the tape, the double arrow buttons fast-forward and rewind the tape, the button with two vertical lines pauses the tape and the triangular button with a line underneath ejects the VHS tape.
TIMER DISPLAY
This button toggles the onscreen timer display through 3 states: Off, Time that the tape has been playing, and Remaining time.

 

AUXILIARY INSTRUCTIONS

Pressing the Use Auxiliary Input button on the VCR/AUX screen brings up the Auxiliary Controls screen and enables the RCA inputs located under the DVD/CD slot. Plug your auxiliary video source (such as a video camera) in to these inputs. The yellow input is for the video cable (adapter available at the Media Services office) and the white input is for the audio cable.
AUXILIARY DEVICE CONTROLS
Operate your auxiliary video source using its built-in controls. The Format button on the lectern's interface changes the video projector's display from Normal to Widescreen mode.

SOURCE BLANK
Blanks the projector temporarily.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume.

Note: These lighting controls are not yet operational.
STAGE LIGHTS
Controls spotlights/floodlights on the stage.
AUDIENCE LIGHTS
Controls the lights in the audience area.
SUPPORT LIGHTS
Controls the secondary lighting in the audience area when the main audience lights are off.
Volume and Microphone
VOLUME
These controls adjust the overall volume for the PC, DVD and Auxiliary sources. Additional volume adjustments for your laptop PC may be done on the computer itself.

MICROPHONE
These controls adjust the overall volume for the wireless microphone.

WIRELESS MICROPHONE UNIT
The wireless Lavaliere Microphone is stored in the drawer on the right-hand side of the lectern. Simply clip the microphone to your shirt (fairly close to your mouth) and press and hold the power button on the top of the transmitter box (see second image on the right) to turn it on or off. The microphone should be active once it is turned on, if you are not getting any audio out of it please call 475-7836 for assistance.
To mute the microphone, quickly push the power button and the LED (see lower image on the right) will turn from green to orange indicating that the microphone is muted. Hitting the on button once more will turn off the mute function and the LED will change back to green.
