Committing $75,000 over three years to the MIS BBA Program, the Cargill Higher Education Initiative will both underwrite crucial new technology tools and ensure the continuing education of MIS faculty members. Jay Singleton, Manager I/T Research at Cargill, along with other Cargill employees (including UT Alum Karen Buresh) teamed with MIS Steering Committee chair Elota Patton to turn a MIS Program request into this $75,000 reality. Through the same program, Cargill gave an additional $75,000 to the McCombs School of Business Accounting Program.
The MIS grant paid for a new dual server from Dell, which, together with donated Microsoft and Oracle software, is dedicated to final projects and partnerships between Prabhudev Konana’s E-business Applications Development class, John Plummer’s Component-Based Development class, and Eleanor Jordan’s Systems Analysis and Design class. “It is difficult to find resources to experiment with new technologies and develop new material for classes,” remarked Konana. “The Cargill server is helping us meet these challenges.”
A portion of the award was also invested in ongoing faculty training in cutting-edge technology, such as advanced Java instruction, web authoring and design, Bluestone (XML) classes, and training in Advanced Office 2000.
Cargill’s support will benefit UT MIS students and faculty through 2002, helping to ensure that the MIS BBA program continues to deliver one of the best educations available in the field.
