Professors can now take advantage of an electronic teaching assistant through CourseNotes, founded by Alan Blake and Abel Banda. The service provides Web sites where syllabi, handouts, course packets, announcements, and other class-related materials can be posted. "We designed it to help faculty deal with general administration hassles and free up their time for teaching and researching," says Blake. "It makes things more convenient for faculty and students, and also enhances the educational process."
Blake enjoys the freedom that comes from starting a company, building a team, and realizing a dream. "I feel I can analyze a problem and integrate the solution into the whole project, and I also feel that I am able to inspire and motivate the people around me to do their best," he says. But there are also challenges involved. "My biggest professional challenge is learning to do less work myself and to delegate more to the talented people I work with."
"Coursework at UT has taught me the value of examining a problem from many different angles, as well as the benefits of working with other people," says Blake. "I'm proud to be able to give something back and provide added value to UT through CourseNotes."
