King Scholarship to Benefit Houston Youths
In conjunction with colleagues, friends, and family members, Ms. Donna K. E. King established the James Edward Lee King Memorial Scholarship in honor of her late husband. Although Mr. King was not a graduate of The University, as an employee of Shell Oil Company, he was impressed with the quality of UT's programs and its graduates. His wife and co-workers felt that a scholarship in his name would be a suitable tribute.
King's colleagues and friends at Shell contributed the seed funding, and Ms. King, who is Senior Vice President at Southwest Bank of Texas, Houston, made a generous contribution as well. The King Scholarship benefits undergraduate students from economically disadvantaged areas in Houston, with additional preference given to first generation college students.
