Matching Gift Program Gains Steam

More than a dozen donors have taken advantage of the McCombs Matching Gift Program since its announcement and made sizable gifts to the school. These gifts, approved by the Dean as critical and necessary investments, are then matched, dollar-for-dollar, with money from the pool of available McCombs matching funds.

Of the $45 million available, $9.125 million has been approved for matching funds to date, including three endowed chairs, six Endowed Presidential Scholarships, one Endowed Presidential Graduate Fellowship, and three excellence funds. This amount includes a major gift from Southwest Airlines founder, Herb Kelleher.

Business Ethics Excellence Fund is Underway

Led by champions Dr. Bob and Ann Pratt of Rye, New York and Charlie & Mary Teeple of Austin, the campaign to fund the Business Ethics Excellence Fund is now underway. The Teeples and Pratts are seeking friends of the McCombs School to join them in supporting business ethics education and programs for graduate and undergraduate students via this endowment. The fund will provide significant support for the new program, directed by Dr. Steve Salbu at the McCombs School.

Because incorporating business ethics into the McCombs School’s curriculum and culture is an important interdisciplinary priority, Dean May has agreed to match all contributions to the fund, subject to the availability of matching funds.

Texas Launch Pad

Thanks to the vision of Gary Cadenhead, director of the MOOT CORP® program, the McCombs School will soon be offering classes in entrepreneurial thought and practice to undergraduates for the first time. To showcase the McCombs School’s leadership role on campus, these new courses will be open to qualified students in other UT-Austin colleges. Because entrepreneurial thinking pays dividends in all disciplines, the entire University will benefit from this novel program.

Coursework will be modeled after the acclaimed MBA entrepreneurship curriculum, currently ranked 7th in the country by U.S. News. It will also feature elements of UT’s MOOT CORP® Business Plan Competition, resulting in a competition-themed course that produces a viable venture, ready to seek funding.
