This summer the McCombs School community lost a well-loved student member. Mary Ann Dingman, International Business major, perished in a single-car crash while returning with friends from a music festival in Tennessee on June 25, 2002. Mary Ann would have been a senior this year.
A woman who loved life, Mary Ann was an excellent student who also had the
benefit of a global education, living and growing up in far-flung locales like Norway, South Korea, Singapore, and Venezuela. Her parents, Alex and Susan, currently live in Australia.
Family friend Bobby Parker, CEO of Parker Drilling Co., remembers the night he called the Dingman household to speak to her parents and ended up convincing Mary Ann that Texas was the place for her! Parker and his wife Risa were Mary Ann’s “stateside parents” while her parents worked abroad, and regarded her as one of the most selfless and open-minded people they ever knew. Mary Ann was also a member of the Undergraduate Business Council and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
With news of Mary Ann’s untimely passing, family and friends were moved to establish a lasting remembrance of the charming woman with a bright future in the form of a permanently endowed scholarship fund. With strong participation from her parents and the Parkers, and a groundswell of support from those who knew her, including many colleagues from ConocoPhillips, the Mary Ann Dingman Memorial Endowed Scholarship was quickly established, and is now fully funded.
Susan Dingman thanks those who made this lasting gift possible, saying “Mary Ann gave all that she could. She was a faithful, loving daughter in life, and an organ donor in death. She will continue to make education possible for kids who just need a chance through the Mary Ann Dingman Memorial Endowed Scholarship born of your generosity.”
