Scholars Enjoy Dinner with Endowment Donors

This year’s annual Endowed Scholarship Dinner, held February 1st, was unique in that the diners were treated to an award presentation recognizing one of the largest gifts to the McCombs School:
$10 million from the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation.

The incredible gift establishes more than 100 scholarships to support Business Honors Program students (see story, page 5). Scott Mitte, foundation president, accepted a framed Capitol Campaign poster from University President Larry Faulkner.

As part of the program, MSIS professor Anitesh Barua reflected on his own experience, recalling that an endowed Mellon scholarship launched his graduate career. “An endowed scholarship is like a two-way mirror, reflecting the values of the donors and the hopes of the student,” he noted.

Other speakers at the event included Dr. Claude Nabers, who with his wife Blanche established the Marquis G. Eaton Accounting Education Fund in honor of her father; second-year MBA student Chris Boyle; and fourth-year Business Honors student Ainsley Gaddis. Both students remarked that their scholarships allowed them to focus more fully on their studies and to participate in charitable activities on and off-campus.

We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our endowed scholarship recipients and the donors who help make them possible again next year- February 7, 2003.
