BBAs
Robert L. Thigpin, Jr., BBA ’62,
worked for Humble Oil and Refining Co. from 1962 to 1968 and
since then has been an independent petroleum landman in Midland,
Texas. He married his wife, Shirley, in 1971 and has one stepson,
John M. Kirton II.
Jack W. Savage, Jr., BBA ’74, is now a partner
in charge of the tax department of CF & Co. LLP, a CPA firm
in Dallas.
Stan R. Mendoza, BBA ’74, was recently promoted
to senior international account manager for the International
Group of Pipeline Products of Baker Petrolite. Mendoza will
be responsible for sales to Latin America, Africa and the Mediterranean.
Laura Hill, BBA ’74, formed Careers in Motion
LLC, a career coaching firm where she works with people from
all levels in career assessment, resume development, job search
guidance, interviewing skills and more. Laura lives with her
husband, Lyle Clark, MBA ’76, in New York City.
Otto C. Schwethelm, BBA ’76, was appointed
vice president of finance and treasurer of Tesoro Corp., an
independent refiner and marketer of petroleum products based
in San Antonio. Schwethelm will be responsible for overseeing
Tesoro’s public stakeholders, including banks, shareholders,
lenders, analysts, insurance underwriters and credit counterparties.
David G. Hanson, BBA ’81, founder and principal
of Houston-based First Harbor Group, LLC, has been listed as
one of America’s Best Financial Planners by the Consumer’s Research
Council. Hanson was chosen based on his experience, training,
professional associations and financial certifications.
Dinesh Vaswani, BBA ’83, has been hired as
managing director of Temasek Holdings Advisors India, Temasek’s
private equity arm in India. Vaswani moved to Bessemer as an
entrepreneur-in-residence in September 2004 from Walden International
where he was managing director.
Challenger
Capital Group, an investment bank in Dallas, has promoted
Charles M. Davis, BBA ’84, to executive director
and vice chairman of the board. Prior to joining Challenger,
Davis served as managing director of investment banking at UBS
in Dallas, as well as managing director at Merrill Lynch & Co.
in Houston and Dallas.
Ray Cole, BBA ’86, vice president and partner
in charge of business development at the Rand Group, will oversee
operations at the group’s new Austin office. TRG is a Microsoft
Gold Partner and leading provider of Microsoft Business Solutions.
Cole has more than 20 years’ experience in enterprise resource
planning, including time with Anderson Consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Timothy D. Belton, BBA ’88, has been named
the new chief operating officer of TRC, a company that creates
and implements solutions to the challenges facing America’s
environmental, infrastructure, power and transportation markets.
Prior to taking on his new position, he served as a director
with Glass & Associates since 2004. Glass & Associates is a
leading international turnaround and restructuring firm. Previously,
Belton was with Anderson Consulting (now Accenture).
Yvonne Cullen, BBA ’89, has opened her second
Jersey Mike’s Subs branch in Austin at Plaza Volente, located
at RM 620 and Anderson Mill Road. She and her husband, Steve,
opened their first Austin location near the Arboretum more than
two years ago.
Vince Calicchia, BBA ’90, and his family have
welcomed his second child, Maddox Vincent, to the world. Calicchia
recently accepted the position as 2006 president for the Commercial
Real Estate Association of Montgomery County, as well as 2006
vice president for the Houston Association of Government Guaranteed
Lenders. He also continues to originate loans for Woodforest
National Bank, the leading SBA community bank lender in the
Houston market.
David Kane, BBA ’90, worked for nearly 10 years
in foreign exchange trading and interest rate derivatives in
New York City. In 2001, Kane moved to London to trade in the
European market, a longtime dream of his. Last year, he moved
from trading to sales, and he now works in a risk advisory group
structuring foreign exchange and interest rate hedges.
Adam Auten, BBA ’91, is proud to announce the
formation of Trinity Fiduciary Partners, an independent financial
advisory firm in Mansfield, Texas. He is the co-owner and chief
investment officer. The goal of the firm is to provide low cost
investment solutions with unbiased financial planning to both

Kyle Hranicky, BBA ’91, has been named head
of the Wells Fargo Energy Group. An industry veteran with more
than a decade of experience at Wells Fargo, Hranicky will lead
a team of more than 60 professionals with offices in Houston,
Dallas and Denver.
Chad Ruback, BBA ’94, was recently elected
president of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. The group
currently has about 2,400 members.
Sylvia Camps, BBA ’96, serves as executive
vice president of Dylan’s Candy Bar, a brand founded by Dylan
Ariel Lauren, the daughter of fashion guru Ralph Lauren. The
brand has been featured in Warner Bros. movies, such as “Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory.” Camps, whose official role is marketing the brand,
met Lauren at Duke University.
Jenny Koger Hamilton, BBA ’97, left private
practice as an attorney for Lane & Waterman LLP in Davenport,
Iowa and began working with Deere & Co. in Moline, Ill., as
a senior attorney in the Products Litigation Group. She got
married in May 2005.
Scott C. Farnsworth, BBA ’97, has joined Imperial
Capital, a boutique investment bank, as vice president. Prior
to joining the company, he was a director at Giuliani Capital
Advisors, LLC where he provided restructuring advisory services
to financially distressed corporate clients and their creditors.
Stephanie Kann Tobor, BBA ’97, founded Donation
Doubler, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness for
matching gift programs around the country. Tobor began the organization
after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and it exists not only for
those efforts but for every other conceivable charity. To find

Ali Abbasi, BBA ’98, is running UBCO Holdings,
one of the largest manufacturing and power transmission companies
in Pakistan. The company was selected as the top firm in its
category in Pakistan and was an exhibitor at the Hannover Messe
2006 in Germany.
Craig Jennings, BBA ’98, and Meghan
Gilfoil, BBA ’98, were married on Nov. 25, 2005, in
Washington, D.C. Craig is a graduate student in the Public Policy
School at American University, while Meghan is a professional
development coordinator at American University.
Vikas Kalra, BBA ’02, was married to Monica Ghosh in
July 2005. He will be attending Harvard Business School in the
fall of 2006 to work on his MBA. , was married to Monica

MBAs & MPAs
James C. Crain, BBA ’70, MPA ’72, joined the board of directors
of Crosstex Energy, a midstream natural gas company headquartered
in Dallas. He has served as president of Marsh Operating Company,
an investments management company focusing on energy investing,
and as general partner of Valmora Partners, L.P., a private
investment partnership.
Christopher Beach, MPA ’73, is now the managing director and
office director for LECG, a global expert services firm. He
founded Beach and Co. International, which was recently
acquired by LECG. Beach has worked with public and private
companies with a focus on forensic analysis and damage
quantification for parties in disputes and litigation.
Hibernia Bank has announced that Paul Teten, BBA ’74, MBA
’76, will be the new chief fixed income strategist and
senior portfolio manager for Hibernia Asset Management, a
division of the bank’s Private Client Group. Teten will lead
investment management operations in Houston. He has 29 years
of experience in portfolio management and currently serves
on several boards, including the Houston Museum of National
Science, the McDonald Observatory- University of Texas
Department of Astronomy, the Chinquapin School and the Texas
Chapter of the Explorers Club.
Kevin Hegarty, BBA ’77, MPA ’79, was appointed to the board
of directors for Staktek Holdings, Inc., a provider of
intellectual property and services for next-generation,
chip-stacking and module technologies. As chief financial
officer of The University of Texas at Austin, Hegarty is
responsible for managing the University’s accounting,
finance, payroll, business contracts, real estate, and
procurement operations and an annual budget of $1.7 billion.
Hegarty also serves on several other boards of directors,
including the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Texas Exes
Alumni Association, Town Lake Films L.P. and Burnt Orange
Productions LLC.
Watts Wacker, MBA ’80, has been selected by the National
Sigma Chi fraternity as a “Significant Sig,” an award for
lifelong professional and service work. Wacker is a noted
futurist and author, and resides in Westport, Conn. with his
wife of 26 years and their two children.
Randall J. Frapart, MBA ’82, has been appointed executive
vice president and chief financial officer of Datrek Miller
International Inc., a supplier of products and value-added
services to the golf industry. Frapart will oversee all
financial functions of DMI including accounting, treasury,
risk management and investor relations. Prior to joining DMI,
Frapart was CFO at HyperFeed Technologies, Inc., a
market-leading technology company based in Chicago.
Norman Stout, MBA ’82, has been named the next chief
executive officer and the newest member of the board of
directors of Inter-Tel, Inc. Stout, who has been with the
company since June 1998, served as full-time executive vice
president, chief administrative officer and president of
Inter-Tel Software and Service, Inc. before he was named
CEO. The company is based in Tempe, Ariz.
Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst has changed its name to HM Capital
Partners LLC after adding Jason H. Downie, BBA ’92, MBA ’99,
and Edward Herring as partners. The Dallas-based private
investment firm also has Jack D. Furst, MBA ’84, on its
senior investment team. HM Capital is currently investing
and managing a $1.6 billion fund.
Michael J. Fowler, MBA ’87, has been named executive vice
president and treasurer of the South Financial Group, Inc.
He will oversee asset liability management, derivatives,
funding, funds transfer pricing and TSFG’s investment
securities portfolio. Prior to joining TSFG, Fowler spent
three years with Capital One Financial Corp., where he was
instrumental in developing guidelines for acquisitions,
funds transfer pricing, liquidity and market risk.
Robert A. Snell, MBA ’88, will be running Citigroup’s
Corporate Banking Group in Tokyo, Japan. He has moved there
with his wife, Barbara.
Michelle McKinney Frymire, MBA ’91, recently relocated to
Orlando, Fla. with her husband Rich Frymire, MBA ’92, where
she is the chief financial officer of Starwood Vacation
Ownership, a division of Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Rich
works as a financial consultant for an Orlando-based
company. Michelle and Rich have four children: Richie, 13;
Michael, 9; Alexandra, 6; and Katherine, 2.
Satish Mansukhani, MBA ’91, was elected as managing director
at Credit Suisse in New York. He continues his role as head
of mortgage strategy in the fixed-income division of the
investment bank.
Reza Shirazi, MBA ’93, was promoted to manager of records
and information management in the information technology
department at LCRA. Shirazi became a United States citizen
last September.
Kurt Holderied, MBA ’93, and his wife, Kate, recently
brought their fourth daughter, Tatum Lee, into the world.
Tatum was born on Nov. 17, 2005.
David T. Kubin, MBA ’95, has recently relocated from Delray
Beach, Fla. to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he is a director and
partner with Wood Partners, one of the largest and most
active apartment and condominium development companies in
the nation. In his new role as director of the Scottsdale
office, David oversees a team of development and
construction professionals creating new residential
communities in Arizona, Nevada and Utah. He has been with
Wood Partners for four years.
Angela Vaiser Klein, MBA ’96, and her husband are proud to
announce the birth of their second child, Deborah Judith,
born on Sept. 21, 2005. Her big brother Adam is four years
old.
Paul K. Ito, MPA ’96, was recently promoted to controller
for Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. Ito will be responsible for
accounting, internal controls and financial reporting for
the company. Ito joined A&B in April 2005 as director of
internal audit. Ito is also a certified public accountant.
David Mehok, MBA ’96, and Kristin Mehok are proud to
announce the births of Avery Margaret and Ashlyn Jill on
Oct. 28, 2005. This brings the household tally to three
little Lady Longhorns. (Their big sister, Kaeley, is 3 years
old.)
Terry Kerr Neyland, MBA ’96, and her husband, Jeff, recently
adopted a baby girl, Eleanor Isabel Neyland, on March 24,
2006. Isabel was born August 1. Neyland is currently a
stay-at-home mom with Isabel and their foster daughter,
Alexus. She will start law school at the SMU Dedman School
of Law this August, where she has received the Dean’s
Scholarship.
Greg J. Peterson, MBA ’96, met Mary Harada at a Manhattan
Whole Foods Store, proposed to her at sunset on the southern
rim of the Grand Canyon, and the two were married on Jan. 1,
2005 on the slopes of Sun Valley, Idaho. They welcomed their
first son, Ryan, on Dec. 20, 2005. Peterson is based in New
York City as the national private equity leader for the
transactions services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Lupe Camargo, MBA ’97, has been promoted to financial
consultant for Perspective Financial Services, LLC in
Phoenix. She joined the company last year as director of
client operations with 15 years of business analysis and
marketing experience. She has held management positions with
U.S. West, Honeywell and 3M. She currently sits on the
advisory board for Holy Spirit Church in Tempe, Ariz. and
the Scholarship Review Committee for the Arizona College
Scholarship Foundation.
In January, Robert Palm, BBA/MPA ’98, was appointed to a
board of directors position at SafePlace, an Austin-based
nonprofit group that fights to end rape, sexual abuse and
domestic violence. Palm is a residential mortgage lender at
Advantage Mortgage Network of Austin.
Namrata Nayyar-Kamdar, MBA ’02, was recently promoted to
senior manager for Lakmé, India’s largest and oldest beauty
brand. She is currently handling innovation marketing. The
brand is worth $50 million.
Glenn Muller, MBA ’03, was married to Alexandra Blei on Jan.
15, 2005.
Willis Dobbs, MBA ’03, was married to Leigh Rudder on Oct.
22, 2005.
Melissa Evers-Hood, MBA ’03, is currently residing in
Portland where she is working on strategy projects
supporting the Digital Office Initiative.
Winston Lam, BBA ’97, MBA ’03, was married in April 2005 and
rang in the New Year in Argentina.
Flavio Gaudenzi, MBA ’03, is working as a consultant for an
oil company in Macaé, a state of Rio de Janeiro.
Victoria Windham Wind, MBA ’03, was married to Martin Wind
on Aug. 6, 2005. She also has a new job with EDS Corp. as a
project manager in sales operations.
Rocky King, MBA ’03, arrived back home from Iraq. He is now
living in the Northwest.
Alfonso Calderon, MBA ’03, will be working on a project in
Singapore between June 2006 and March 2007.
Ned Lavelle, MBA ’03, will be starting up a Jimmy John’s in
North Central Austin, which he hopes will be open this
summer.
Brant Bedford, MBA ’03, moved to Dallas where his company is
hiring full-time marketing consultants in the Dallas and
Houston areas.
Jennifer Mills, MBA ’03, was promoted to lieutenant
commander and is a planning officer in the Seattle area.
Sterling Smith, BBA/MPA ’96, MBA ’03, has joined Stephens,
Inc., based in Little Rock, Ark. Stephens, Inc., is an
investment bank that provides a number of financial
services. Smith is in the corporate finance group and
continues to focus on public and private capital raising
activities.
Manish Dharnidharka, MBA ’03, is working in New York at
Thomson Financial and was also married last January.

Sadik Al-bassam, Ph.D. ’80, is director of
Gold Reef, which was recently acquired by OMG Mineral
Exploration Inc. Al-bassam serves as a Kuwaiti CPA. He
joined the faculty of Kuwait University in the accounting
department in 1980. He served on the boards of directors of
many investments and financing companies traded in the
Kuwait Stock Market. He has published a few books in
accounting in Arabic.
James B. Thomas, Ph.D. ’88, will be the next dean of the
Smeal College of Business at Penn State after serving as
dean of the College of Information Sciences and Technology
since 1999. He will assume his new position on July 1, 2006.
He is the co-author of more than 100 articles, book
chapters, reviews and numerous presentations.
Lou Kost, Jr., Ph.D. ’80, is secretary-treasurer and
director of Gold Reef. He is a former Texas state
representative who served on the Banking Committee. Kost is
currently secretary and director of Anviram, Inc., where his
duties include interacting with the governmental agencies in
Latin America on behalf of Phoenix Biotechnology, Inc.
The Kelley School’s Accounting Department is pleased to have
Leslie D. Hodder, Ph.D. ’01, join its faculty as assistant
professor this fall. Leslie earned her bachelor of business
administration, as well as her MBA and master’s of
accounting, at the University of New Mexico. She comes to
the Kelley School from the Stanford Graduate School of
Business, where she has been teaching since 2001. Before
entering a career in academia, Leslie worked as a CPA at
KPMG Peat Marwick, at Ernst & Young, and in consulting. She
was also controller at Jack Clifford & Co., chief financial
officer at Levy Bancorp, and director and finance chair at
Carpinteria Sanitary District in California.
