Diversity in Business Program Creates Culture of Success for Minorities

As the business landscape becomes increasingly globalized, diversity issues are gaining more and more recognition. The McCombs Diversity in Business program was created to diversify the admissions pipeline, support diversity awareness programming at the school and increase scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students. One of the first programs of its kind at a top public business school, Diversity in Business is a joint effort between the school’s academic program offices and corporate partners.

Diversity in Business programming includes the Target Your Future career seminars; a graduation reception to help first-generation college students gain confidence about their undergraduate experience and career search; the MBA Diversity Awareness Event, where students and recruiters meet to discuss the role of diversity in the workplace; and the BBA Women’s Council, a series of events for undergraduate women to discuss how to succeed in college and after graduation.

“The Women’s Council has been extremely successful, and I think it’s relatively groundbreaking as far as what other universities are doing,” says finance senior and council member Wendy Lin. “Recruiters have commented that McCombs is the only school they recruit at with such a strong women’s organization.”

Corporations are invited to partner with McCombs and support the Diversity in Business program. Support extends beyond a financial commitment and allows companies to connect with students at an early stage and make a meaningful difference in their lives through mentoring, career guidance and leadership development.
