McCombs Welcomes New Dean, Thomas W. Gilligan, to Austin

Following a nationwide search, the university announced the appointment of Thomas W. Gilligan as dean of the McCombs School of Business July 9, 2008. Gilligan, whose term begins Sept.1, 2008, arrives from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where he was a professor of finance and business economics, as well as interim dean of the school in 2006-07.

Accounting Professor Michael Granof, who chaired the dean search committee, said there was remarkable unanimity among members of the committee, as well as others in the McCombs community who participated in the selection process. Gilligan said his family is excited to join The University of Texas at Austin community.

“I am honored and invigorated by the prospect of leading the McCombs School of Business to even more accomplishments and greater prominence,” he said. Texas magazine will report on Dean Gilligan’s first few months in Austin in the fall/winter issue.
