Late Dallas Executive and UT Austin Professor Memorialized
The Graduate School of Business announced October 13 the completion of The William Howard Beasley III Professorship. "The Beasley professorship will incorporate economics, law, political science, liberal arts and entrepreneurship into the curricula, adding a new and broader dimension to the graduate business education program," said Bob May, dean of the Texas Business School.
Beasley began his career as assistant to U. S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Charles Walker and Treasury Secretaries John Connally, George Shultz and William Simon. He moved to the private sector in 1975 when he joined Chicago-based Northwest Industries. In 1984, he became president and chief operating officer, and the following year, Beasley led a spin-off, Lone Star Technologies, Inc. He remained there until his retirement in 1989. Beasley died in 1990.
During his career, Beasley served on the advisory council for the Texas Business School and as an adjunct faculty member at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. In 1984 he was awarded both the Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award and the College of Business Administration Distinguished Alumnus Award. He received two degrees from UT: a master's in accounting and a doctorate in finance and law.
