David L. Stirton, BBA 49, is enjoying life after spending more than 50 years in the real estate business and 28 years in the Naval Air Reserve. He still flies aerobatic airplanes, watercolors, and conducts research for writers of aviation books.

James W. Gibson, BBA 64, a legal advisor at Sam Houston State University, recently published Capitalizing on Conflict, Strategies and Practices for Turning Conflict to Synergy in Organizations. This manager’s handbook was co-authored by UT Law graduate Kirk Blackard. 

R. Scott Hood, BBA 70, is owner of a CPA firm in Charleston, SC.

Robert A. Nowotny, BBA 70, president of Teocalli Entertainment, producer of the Emmy Award winning documentary The Legend of Billy the Kid, has completed his third independent feature motion picture. Killing Time will be released on video and DVD this fall.

Richard Battle, BBA 73, just published his second book, “Surviving Grief By God’s Grace”. His first book, “The Volunteer Handbook: How to Organize and Manage a Successful Organization” was published in 1988, and is still in print.

Alejandro R. Morales, BBA 75, after four years with the Texas Senate as policy analyst and staff member for the Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, has moved to San Antonio for a position as accounts examiner with the Texas Workforce Commission Tax Department.

Joel Denbo, BBA 76, CEO of Tennessee Valley Recycling L.L.C., has been elected to a two-year term as national chair-elect of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. Denbo is formerly vice president of Denbo Iron & Metal Co., in Decatur AL.

Cynthia Comparin, BBA 80, received the 2002 Women of Excellence Award from WE-Women’s Enterprise in May. Cynthia is president and CEO of Animato Technologies Corp. in Dallas, named one of the fastest growing companies in north Texas by the Dallas Business Journal.

Robert Allen Keith, BBA 81, has taken a job as the administrator of Oregon’s Appraiser Certification and Licensure Board after 21 years as a professional real estate appraiser and owner of an appraisal firm. The ACLB is responsible for licensing and regulating Oregon’s real estate appraisers.

Adin Brown, BBA 82, is president of Sonny Brown Associates, a real estate firm. Adin was named Most Valuable Broker for both Prologis Trust’s Central United States Region and for the El Paso, Texas Region in 2001. Prologis Trust is a global provider of integrated industrial manufacturing facilities.

Robert Alan Shevlin, BBA 82, got married last year. He and his wife Sandra welcomed daughter Ava Kay in February.

Kevin Ward, BBA 82 was recently chosen by the Texas Water Development Board to serve in the capacity of Executive Administrator.

Cliff McAdams, BBA 83, recently got married to Josette Van Driel in Dominica, W.I., honeymooning in St. Lucia. Cliff is an attorney with Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, L.L.P. in Houston.

Mary McMillen Beserra, BBA 83, with her husband Robert started San Saba Construction, an underground utility construction company, in 1997. Now with 25 employees, the business is based in Plano, and Mary serves as VP of Finance.

Darrell Jolley, BBA 85, has joined Tatum CFO as a partner in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Tatum CFO is a national partnership of career chief financial officers providing CFO solutions to early stage companies, middle market companies and large corporations.

Maurice Kurland, BBA 87, after serving as senior legislative assistant to Texas Congressman Silvestre Reyes, took a position as an attorney and lobbyist with the government relations firm Alcalde & Fay in Washington, D.C.

Mark Patlan, BBA 88, began attending the University of San Diego Law School this fall, to pursue a career in public interest law. He stepped down from his position as CEO of Applied Integration Management Corporation, a management consultancy that he founded in 1993, where he will remain as Chairman Emeritus. 

Michelle Mathis Bellamy, BBA 89, is president of Jim Bellamy, Insurance Adjuster and Investigator, Inc. The company is based in Dallas.

Mitchell Smith, BBA 89, currently living in Potomac, Maryland, and his wife Amy happily announce the birth of their third son. Noah Bailey Smith was born in March 2002 and joins big brothers Jacob and Max. All of the Smith boys, in keeping with their Texas heritage, enjoy salsa on their eggs, like things wrapped up instead of on bread, and are teaching their Maryland classmates how to say, “y’all”!

Carolyn Wood, BBA 90, was promoted to Major in the U.S. Air Force. She is stationed in England.

Jeff Fryhover, BBA 91, has been promoted to president/COO of Umpqua Feather Merchants, the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of hand-tied fishing flies. Umpqua is located in Glide, OR. Jeff and his wife Rosemarie have one son.

Paulette Rychlik Clark, BBA 91, gave birth to her first child, son Truitt William Clark in May 2002. Paulette is a financial systems analyst with Motorola in Lawrenceville, GA.

Michael R. Ross, BBA 91, and his wife Kristen recently relocated from Phoenix to Dallas, where he joined Baron & Budd, PC as an associate attorney.

Maria Carmen Nonay Vela, BBA 91, and her husband, Beat Heggli, welcomed their first son Oliver Alexander on September 11, 2001 in Washington, D.C. He was a joy to offset the tragic events of that day.

Cory Cox, BBA 93, accepted a job as account manager with Ford Consumer Connect, servicing the e-business marketing needs of Ford of Mexico, Ford of Canada, and Ford Fleet effective.

Robert M. Gleason, BBA 93, is President of RTG Business Enterprises, LP and has recently been awarded the franchise rights to Seattle’s Best Coffee. Gleason is the exclusive franchise partner for Central Texas and will be opening 16 cafes in the next five years with the first three in Austin. Samantha B. Martinez, BBA 94, joined Coldwell Banker Richard Smith as a 
realtor doing business in Round Rock and Northwest Austin. 

Julia Nestor, BBA 96, is a Technical Consultant with Ajilon Consulting, which specializes in IT professional services. 

Jennifer White Webb, BBA 97, and her husband Jason welcomed a new baby girl, Jenna Lauren in March 2002. Jennifer is currently managing the Application Support group of the Auto Division of Citigroup Financial.

Natalie D. Bow, BBA 98, is relationship marketing manager with Range Rover and was quoted in the May 6, 2002 edition of Brandweek.

Gerardo (Jerry) Carbajal, BBA 98, is an administrator for four rural health clinics in Dilley, TX.

Bruce Skrabanek, BBA 99, was recently promoted to Captain in the U.S. Army. He and his wife had their first child, son Mark William in March, 2002. Beginning in December Mark and his family will be stationed in Okinawa, Japan
