Robert A. Jacobs, BBA 57, is now a consulting partner at his former law firm, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP and is also an insurance consultant at the Gulf Insurance Group.

Joel Staff, BBA 67, was named CEO of Reliant Resources, the Houston-based energy company that serves more than 1.7 million Texans. As CEO of National Oilwell, Staff grew the company from a $500 million-a-year operation to a $2 billion-a-year industry leader.

Emanual (Manny) Bodner, BBA 69, was presented with the 2003 Environmental Professional of the Year Award by the City of Houston and the Overseas Chinese Environmental Engineers and Scientists Association (OCEESA) in recognition of his leadership and contributions in recycling. Manny is president of Bodner Metal & Iron Corporation, processor and supplier of industrial ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal. He is also chair of the Operations Committee of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), a member of the ISRI Board of Directors, and vice president of the ISRI Gulf Coast Chapter.
James P. Gardner, BBA 70, after 26 years in the securities business, joined John McCollom & Associates in Kerrville to sell property in the Texas Hill Country.

James P. Graham, BBA 70, has been named chairman of the board and CEO of Schick Shadel Hospital in Seattle. Graham and nine other former patients of the highly successful alcohol and drug addiction hospital purchased it. Schick Shadel, founded in 1935, offers a unique 10-day medical treatment for various chemical dependencies, and has the most effective treatment for alcohol abuse as verified by independent studies. Graham retains his position as president and CEO of Palo Petroleum in Dallas.

Edmund P. Frank, Jr., BBA 73, retired in March after more than 29 years of employment at the Texas Education Agency. Upon retirement, Edmund began a new career as chief accountant with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, saying that “service to our great state of Texas is very rewarding…”

Sirivat Voravetvuthikun, BBA 73, formerly a successful real estate developer in Thailand, lost his fortune during the Asian economic crisis of 1997 and started from scratch selling sandwiches to make a living. Sirivat’s hard luck story has been featured in the international media, and he’s become well known for his entrepreneurial spirit. To read his whole story, visit www.sirivatsandwich.com.

Alan Lee Lipman, BBA 76, began a new position as chief operations officer/executive director for Congregation Beth Israel in Houston. Previously, Alan was director of finance and administration for the Jewish Community Center of Houston.

Jerry M. Withers, BBA 76, has been appointed senior training instructor in the Services Division of Surgient, the world’s leading virtualization management vendor. He and his family continue to reside in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Mike Shaub, BBA 77, is the Emil C. E. Jurica Professor of Accounting at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He and his wife Linda (Wadley), BS 77, have been married 26 years and have five children.

James B. Selig, BBA 81, after 22 years in banking, switched to the real estate profession, and is now a broker-associate for Joe Tramonte Realty, Inc. in Galveston.

Elizabeth (Farias) Harder, BBA 82, has relocated Harder Consulting, Inc. to 8303 N. Mopac, Suite C270 in Austin. Harder Consulting is a professional recruiting firm that specializes in the placement of accounting and finance
professionals. Elizabeth was also recently elected national secretary for the American Association of Finance & Accounting (AAFA).

John Gutierrez, BBA 83, is now Crawford County (Kansas) Attorney.

Jerry Boda, BBA 84, was ranked 5th in the nation by AIG SunAmerica Securities, making him part of the coveted Baker’s Dozen of the financial advising industry. Jerry is both president of Boda Financial Group, Inc., a registered investment advisory firm, and branch manager of SunAmerica Securities, Inc. located in Flower Mound. An active member in his community, as well, Jerry serves as a school adopter for the Lewisville Independent School District and a building team leader for Lewisville ISD.

Lynn Utter, BBA 84, has been selected for the Aspen Institute’s Henry Crown Fellowship Program. The Henry Crown Fellowship Program is designed to engage young leaders in a dialogue about leadership with a diverse group of their peers. Only 20 fellows are chosen each year from a distinguished group of over 300 nominees. Utter is a member of the McCombs School’s Advisory Council, and chief strategy officer for Coors Brewing Company in Golden, CO.

Susan E. Christian, BBA 86, recently joined Mary Kay, Inc. as an independent business consultant. Susan lives in Houston.

Helaine Golman Wolf, BBA 86, along with Sheryl Lilly Pidgeon (BJ 84), co-founded Top Secret Services, a growing company that provides customer service evaluation, training courses, and sales-enhancing programs focused on shopping center retailers and restaurants.

Blake Wolff and Brent Mellow, BBAs 87, formed MW Advisors in August, a full-service sales and support strategies advisory firm. Wolff serves as president and Mellow as executive vice president of the Dallas firm. Previously, Wolff was president and CEO of The Telvista Company, and Mellow was vice president of sales and marketing and chief administrative officer at the same company.

Suzanne Schorlemer Bailey, BBA, 88, formerly an attorney with Oppenheimer, Blend, Harrison & Tate, Inc. has accepted a position as staff attorney in the corporate legal department at H.E.Butt Grocery Company in San Antonio.

Yvonne (Hernandez) Cullen, BBA 89, and her husband just opened a Jersey Mike’s Subs franchise here in Austin on Research Boulevard, across from the Arboretum. Jersey Mike’s has been around the East coast since 1956 and Cullen’s location is the 3rd in Texas. Visit them online at: jerseymikesaustin.com.

Christine (Schaulat) Warden, BBA 90, and her husband are pleased to announce the arrival of Emma Louise Warden in July. Emma weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces. Mom and Dad are thrilled with their new baby!

Elvia Maria Garrido, BBA 90, married David M. Trautman, in January on Kauai, Hawaii. The couple resides in Austin.

Susan (Anderson) Rosenberg, BBA 92, is vice president, sales and marketing for Putumayo World Music, an independent label. Previously, she worked for RCA Victor/BMG.

David Linehan, BBA 93, relocated from Kansas City to Seattle, where he joined the international law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis LLP as an associate in the litigation department. David and his wife Diana (Merrett), BS 90, MA 92, are also pleased to announce the birth of their second son, Finley. Finley and his older brother Oliver hope to become active in the Puget Sound chapter of the Texas Exes.

Aileen Abello, BBA 95, graduated in May from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management with an MBA in Strategy and Marketing. She is excited to return to Austin and will be working for Dell Financial Services.

Nicole Lewis, BBA 95, married Matthew Lewis in 2000.

Joseph Hughes Ramsey, BBA 97, recently joined Strategic Careers LLC as a senior associate. Strategic Careers is an executive search firm specializing in sales, marketing and IT placement.

Gerardo Carbajal, BBA 98, married Irene Esquivel in March 2003. In addition, he’s been elected to the board of directors for the Texas Association of Rural Health Clinics. This is his second seat on a board in the last two years.

Jason Stone, BBA 99, formed Fandango Publishing Company and recently released The Texas Golf Bible, an 800 page travel book that covers every course in Texas. Fandango plans to continue with a Golf Bible series.

Lisa Tilley, BBA 99, married Dr. James Dundas in December, 2002. After graduating from law school in May 2002, Lisa has been working as a real estate attorney at Oppenheimer, Blend, Harrison & Tate in San Antonio.

Jean-Paul Daemen Aguilar, BBA 01, past general manager and director of sales and marketing, recently acquired all outstanding shares of Uptime Devices, Inc. of Austin. Jean-Paul will act as CEO and president of the firm. Previously, he worked for Cisco Systems and Deloitte and Touche Consulting.

Matthew Matza, BBA 01, began a new position as analyst/associate for Centennial Ventures in Houston. Matthew previously worked for McKinsey & Co. as a business analyst in San Francisco, and looks forward to returning to Texas.
