Royce Herbie Bailey, MBA 56, received his BBA in 1951. After a stint in the Navy, he returned to UT to complete his thesis and receive his MBA in 1956. He remembers that Drs. Charles Kay and Charles Prather and Dean J. Anderson Fitzgerald were on his MBA counseling team. He recently retired from what used to be the Humble Oil Co. (now Exxon) and is thoroughly enjoying life. Royce and his wife recently celebrated their 50th anniversary, and they have eight grandchildren.
Robert D. Taylor, BBA 61/MBA 65, recently retired as
emeritus professor after 20 years at Florida Atlantic University.
While at FAU, he served as director of graduate studies and then
director of the School of Accounting.
Among other honors, in 1990 he was named Outstanding Accounting
Educator for the State of Florida (FICPA) and in 2002 was awarded the
Degree of Difference Award by the National Alumni Association of FAU.
Edward P. Pita, MBA 65, earned his doctorate in Education from the University of Houston, leaving a 30 year career in international business to teach math at Holub Middle School in Houston. Edward also runs an after-school program for at-risk kids and uses the Wall Street Journal-school edition to teach kids about business.
James M. Williams, MBA 66, BBA 65, was named to a five-year term as member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) in July. Williams is a partner and the National Director of Public Sector Accounting and Assurance Services with Ernst & Young LLP. The GASB is the independent organization that establishes and improves financial accounting and reporting standards for state and local governments.
David May, MBA 66, owns and operates D.R Kidd Company-a residential and commercial roofing company in Round Rock, TX. They've been reroofing many buildings at UT.
Kent Taylor, MBA 68, celebrated the 5th anniversary of his own company, Taylor Commercial, a commercial real estate brokerage company specializing in Austin-area retail and apartment properties. In the past four years, the Austin Business Journal professionally recognized three of his land sales in its annual “Best Deal of the Year” commercial real estate awards.
Joseph T. Barron, Jr., MBA 69, recently accepted a position as General Counsel at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.
Gary Cofran, MBA 69, is now working for Chemconnect Inc. as Vice President of Worldwide Sales.
James R. Erwin, MBA 69, has been named to the Board of Directors of Carreker Corporation, a provider of e-finance enabling solutions to the financial industry.
Kriss Clonginer III, MBA 71, BBA 69, was named president of AFLAC Incorporated and elected to the Board of Directors.
James V. Long, MPA 71, was honored last May at the International World Congress of 33,000 Senior Financial Executives held in Orlando, FL.
Kelly A. Rushing, MBA ’71, was elected president of the Texas Historical Foundation and began to lead the private organization in July 2004. Kelly served on the THS board for two years before his election.
Charles R. Peissel, MBA 72, has become Executive Vice President and General Counsel of E-Comm Networks, LLC in Austin.
Michael J. Lallinger, BBA 71/MBA 72, and his wife Lisa in August celebrated the birth of their son, Matthew. He joins siblings Laren (8) and Erin (5).
Doug Bibby, MBA 72, was appointed president of the National Multi-Housing Council in June 2001. Previously, Bibby worked as a senior officer and member of the Operation Committee at Fannie Mae for nearly 16 years.
Joseph Matlock, Jr., BBA 70, MBA 73, has been appointed to the board of directors of MindArrow Systems, a developer of software and services. Matlock is currently the chairman and CEO of AffordAmerica Incorporated and a Life member of the McCombs School of Business Advisory Council.
John E. Mueller, MBA 73, has accepted a position as President and CEO of WestFarm Foods in Seattle.
John Bailey, MBA 75, BBA 74, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Warrior Resources, Inc., formerly Comanche Energy, Inc. Bailey is senior managing director of Berkshire Capital Partners, Inc.
William R. Johnson, MBA 74, was elected to the board of directors for The Clorox Company. Mr. Johnson is the chairman, president and CEO of the H.J. Heinz Company.
C. John Wilder, MBA 74, is now president and chief executive of TXU Corp. Wilder was formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer of Entergy Corporation.
J. Randolph Lewis, BBA 71, BA 74, MBA 75, has been promoted from vice president to senior vice president - distribution and logistics at Walgreen Co. Lewis went to Walgreens as a consultant with Ernst & Young in 1987 and formally joined the company in 1992 as a divisional vice president.
James E. Turpin, BBA 74, MBA 75, was recently elected to the American Academy of Actuaries Board of Directors. Since 1981 he has been the president and CEO of the Turpin Consulting Group, and Turpin & Associates, Consultants and Actuaries, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
James E. Turpin, BBA 74, MBA 75, was selected Vice President of the American Academy of Actuaries. As VP, Turpin will chair the Academy Pension Practice Council. Turpin is president of the Turpin Consulting Group in Albuquerque, NM.
John R. Bailey, BBA 74, MBA 75, is managing director with Berkshire Partners, Inc. in Dallas. He recently moved back to Texas from Reno, Nevada.
Sally White Beck, BBA 75, MBA 77, was promoted to managing director of global risk management operations for Enron in Houston. She manages all mid- and back-office services for all commodities markets within Enron’s wholesale businesses.
James Roderick (Rod) Clark, MBA 75, has been appointed president of Baker Petrolite, a branch of Baker Hughes Inc. He was previously with Consolidated Equipment Companies, Inc., as its president and CEO.
Robert A. West, MBA 75, is now working at IBM as an e-commerce marketing representative in Austin.
George Serebrenik, MBA 76, returned with his family to Austin after spending eight years in Hungary as finance manager for PriceWaterhouse and Best Foods Inc. He presently works as finance manager for Aaron Enterprises.
Lon Lehr, MBA 77, has been named President of League Energy Group.
Norm Pegram, MBA 77, recently acquired International Mailing Systems, Inc. The company has expertise in helping dot com companies promote their services and product fulfillment with a growth rate approaching 20 percent a year.
Debbie Wernet, MBA 78, former president of Shell Trading Gas
and Power Company, was named president of U.S. Energy
Savings, a subsidiary of the Energy Savings Income Fund. The Ontario
and Manitoba-based Fund has plans to expand into newly deregulated
U.S. markets. According to Rebecca McDonald, CEO of the Fund, Wernet
is “among the most respected senior executives in the North American
gas and electricity markets.”
Kevin P. Hegarty, BBA 77, MPA 79, vice president and chief financial officer at Dell Financial Services since February 2000, has been appointed vice president and chief financial officer at the University of Texas at Austin.
Dana C. Atkinson, MBA 79, of Sugarland, Texas, recently returned from three years in The Netherlands after managing European operations for a strategic joint venture. Mr. Atkinson serves as vice president of chemicals and polymers business for Kvaerner in Houston.
Winston Duke, BA 74, MBA 79, County Auditor of Henderson County, was married last April.
Linda McKenzie, MPA 79, was appointed National Director of Brand Management and Creative Resources for Ernst & Young's North American practice.
Frederic Chartier, BBA 77, MBA 79, recently moved from Europe to Boston.
Larry Schear, MBA 79, accepted the position of chief operating officer of the Care Coordination Business of United Health Group.
