BACKGROUND: The 2004 Mobility Roundtable, co-hosted by Intel and The University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business, will bring together 150 industry leaders to discuss the latest innovations in mobile technologies and their business applications. The Mobility Roundtable is a series of global conferences on mobile communication and computing, organized by an international group of researchers and practitioners. The first Roundtable was held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2002 and the second took place in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2003.
WHO WILL SPEAK: The more than five dozen speakers and panelists include:
Intel is lead sponsor and co-host for the event. Additional sponsors include SBC, UK Trade & Investment, and Vinson & Elkins. Additional university support comes from the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce and the Center for Customer Insight at the McCombs School of Business.
More Info: Experts on mobile telecommunications from industry and academia will anticipate an unwired world at the Austin Mobility Roundtable, which is scheduled to dovetail with this year’s SXSW Interactive conference.
“This chain of events in different continents underpins the rapidly growing international cooperation in the area of ‘Seamless Mobility,’ which is a much broader concept than just cell phones or ‘hot spots,’” said Sharon Dunn, one of the organizers of the Roundtable.
Scheduled speakers include top executives from Intel, SBC, Motorola, Sprint, FedEx, Nokia and many other companies, and professors from Harvard Business School, the Stockholm School of Economics, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Helsinki School of Economics, and the McCombs School, among other universities. During the two-day event, these participants will share their perspectives on a host of issues that CEOs, CIOs, CTOs and the legal community must cooperatively address in the years to come.
Discussion topics include mobile security and privacy, the future of broadband, multiparty mobile games, the outlook for peer-to-peer interaction on mobile networks, and global competitiveness in mobile industries. The widespread usage of mobile and wireless devices and the breakneck speed with which these industries implement technological innovations ensure that these discussions will be of interest to specialists and laypeople alike.
Overlapping with Austin’s famed SXSW Interactive Conference, the Austin Mobility Roundtable will offer its participants discounted passes to all SXSW Interactive programs on March 13. Since its debut in 1987, SXSW has evolved into a unique event to showcase work, market products, foster relationships, discuss the future, learn and teach.
Admission to the Mobility Roundtable is open to the public, but requires registration, which is available online at the Austin Mobility Roundtable 2004 website, www.austinmobility.org. Interested parties are encouraged to sign up by February 15 for early bird registration specials.
