Carpenter Family Donation Creates MBA Student Leadership Center
A $1 million donation from the Ben H. Carpenter family has been earmarked for an MBA student lounge and leadership center at the McCombs School of Business.
With the donation, The Carpenter Family MBA Student Leadership Center will be created in a 4,100 square-foot facility on the third floor of the Graduate School of Business building. Renovations will provide hundreds of graduate students with a state of the art facility complete with the latest office equipment, communications infrastructure, and computer technology.
“I want to thank the Carpenter family for this wonderful gift” says Dean George Gau. “The Carpenter Family Leadership Center will be a valuable addition to the McCombs School because student participation in MBA organizations is essential to their professional development, building skills that are instrumental to their success in the workplace such as leadership, group facilitation, conflict management, and negotiation.”
With the gift--a donation from the Ben H. Carpenter Family Foundation, John W. Carpenter III and Ben H. Carpenter--the facility will centralize MBA student organizations, create a “business center” style workroom, encompass existing small study rooms, and create a conference room and a lounge for MBA student use.
The funds will cover initial construction and furnishings and establish an endowed account to maintain the facility and provide for future renovations, new furnishings, technology enhancements, and periodic carpet replacement.
The Carpenter family has long been active at the University: Ben Carpenter earned his BBA in 1948, John W. Carpenter III received his MBA in 1977. John Carpenter also currently serves on the McCombs School Advisory Council.
