AUSTIN, TX. - In a survey of the top MBA programs in Latin America, the September 13th issue of AméricaEconomía, a Dow Jones business magazine published throughout Latin America, ranks UT-Austin partners ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico; Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile; and FGV in São Paulo, Brazil three of the top four schools in the region. The magazine touts ties to UT-Austin, especially in the form of double-degree programs, as a way to advance the marketability of business graduates: “A UT-Austin MBA degree continues to provide positive recognition for any Mexican executive.”
Additional UT partner schools ITESM in Mexico City, IESA in Venezuela, and ESAN in Peru fall among the top 16 MBA programs in the poll. “The McCombs School has long sought relationships with schools throughout the world that stand up to our standards of excellence,” says Dr. David Platt, director of the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at UT-Austin. “We’re really proud to be able to offer top students from Latin America degree programs that add value to the region’s business enterprises.
“Moreover, these relationships provide our students an opportunity to study alongside students from these countries that are so important to the U.S. economy,” Platt adds. “We believe that we do better than any other U.S. business school when it comes to our network of partnerships in Latin America,” continues Robert May, dean of the McCombs School.
UT-Austin also ranks 10th in the AméricaEconomía list of the best schools for Latin Americans wishing to attend an MBA program in North America or Europe. “In the global business environment, the McCombs School is becoming the strategic liaison for people looking for business opportunities between North and South America and the Asia-Pacific countries,” says Jaime Alonso Gómez, director of the ITESM Graduate School of Business Administration and Leadership in Monterrey. “Students, professors, and executives value that a lot and act accordingly.”
The AméricaEconomía poll takes into account both reputation, as deemed by business school professors and directors across Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, and academic variables such as the quality of students. The McCombs School also offers an executive MBA program in Mexico City, and a joint degree program with UT’s Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, the top-ranked program of its kind in the United States. MBA students interested in conducting business in Latin America can participate in the Spanish language track, a series of business courses taught in Spanish that emphasizes the language and cultural issues significant to business. UT’s CIBER is responsible for the McCombs School's network of partnerships with business schools throughout the world. It is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and promotes education and research on business globalization.
The McCombs School of Business is perennially ranked one of the top business schools in the country and world according to leading business publications such as The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and U.S. News & World Report.
