The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business welcomes two new leaders to its MBA program this week. The school named Stacey Rudnick director of MBA career services. Daniel Garza, current director of MBA admissions, will succeed Elissa Ellis as assistant dean and MBA program director.

Rudnick comes to McCombs from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, where she was senior associate director of the MBA Career Management Center. At Goizueta she was noted for managing and expanding the school’s relations with corporate recruiters and alumni. Her experience matches two central goals of the McCombs School’s current strategic plan: enhancing external relationships and improving the alignment of the MBA program with corporate recruiters.

“We are lucky to catch Stacey at this point in her career,” said Steve Salbu, associate dean for MBA programs, noting that Rudnick was the selection committee’s top choice among all candidates in the national search for an MBA placement director. “I am very excited that she is going to bring her energy, drive and skills to the service of our school and students.”

Previous to entering university administration, Rudnick worked in consulting and brand marketing with Viant and Eastman Kodak. She earned an undergraduate degree from Duke University and an MBA from Goizueta. Rudnick’s appointment is effective immediately.

Garza will assume his new role as assistant dean of the MBA program July 1. He has been at McCombs since 2001, serving as director of marketing and diversity initiatives (2001-2003) and director of admissions (2003-2004). Prior to that, Garza, who earned an undergraduate business degree at McCombs and an MBA from the Stern School at New York University, worked in marketing at Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and Ziff-Davis.

“In the time I’ve known him, Daniel has excelled at all of the many challenges he has undertaken. He works tirelessly and brings insight, intelligence, perceptiveness and dedication to everything he does,” said Salbu.

Ellis, the outgoing assistant dean and director of the MBA program, is leaving McCombs after seven years to become executive director of the Forté Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing opportunities for women through graduate business education.

“Elissa is smart, energetic, creative, devoted and passionate,” said Salbu. “The loss of her abilities is compensated only be the knowledge that a good friend is undertaking new challenges and continuing to develop her many talents and explore new opportunities.”

The McCombs School is one of the founding members of the Forté Foundation and a major supporter of its activities.
