Peterson Becomes Research Dean
Former dept. chair and distinguished marketing expert assumes new post

Austin, TX – Robert Peterson, a longtime McCombs professor with a distinguished background in marketing, has been appointed associate dean for research and director of the Bureau of Business Research effective September 1, 2002. Peterson takes over for Laura Starks, who became chair of the Department of Finance after the university selected George Gau as new dean of the McCombs School."

This appointment is a critical one," said Gau. "As a long-time faculty member, with service as a department chair and graduate adviser, Bob has an extensive knowledge of the school and the university. These will be valuable strengths as we pursue our strategic planning process in the upcoming academic year."

Peterson's own areas of research expertise include consumer behavior, marketing communication and strategy. Snce 1996 he has served as associate editor of the Journal of Consumer and Market Research and from 1991-1994 served as editor of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.

In 2001, Peterson received the McCombs School's Career Award for Outstanding Research Contributions. Recent consultancies include work with Exxon Corporation, 3M, and Mobile Communication Corp. of America.
