Announcement from Dean May:
Salbu Selected as New Associate Dean of MBA Program

Faculty, Staff, MBA Students and Alumni:

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Steve Salbu will succeed Dr. Phil Zerrillo as Associate Dean for the MBA Program, effective June 1, 2002. Effective January 1, 2002, Steve will be appointed co-dean with Phil to permit a smooth transition, allow Phil to see the Class of 2002 through to graduation and allow Steve to wind up other obligations.

Phil Zerrillo has done an outstanding job and he deserves a great deal of thanks from all of us. His dedication to MBA students and to program quality is evident in everything he does. However, with Britt Freund needing to concentrate on the growing demands of the Texas Evening MBA Program, the burden of being both the Associate Dean for Executive Education and Associate Dean for the MBA program is unreasonable, even for Phil's broad shoulders. Thus, I have asked him to concentrate full-time on Executive Education after May 31.

It's hard to envision anyone as good as Phil for this job, but Steve Salbu definitely comes to mind. Steve is an all-around outstanding teacher and researcher. He was promoted early to associate professor, and, in 1998, he was promoted early to full professor. He holds the Bobbie and Coulter R. Sublett Centennial Endowed Professorship. He has received numerous teaching awards and has excellent rapport with the MBA students. Among the awards he has received are the Joe D. Beasley Award for MBA Teaching Excellence (1994), the Jack Taylor Teaching Excellence Award (1996), the CBA Foundation Advisory Council Award for Teaching Innovation (2000). I should also note that he was elected to the Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 1996. His research is equally distinguished.

I am delighted that Professor Salbu is willing to serve the school in this new role. I am convinced he will bring his characteristic enthusiasm and skill to this demanding job.

Please join me in thanking Dr. "Z" and congratulating Steve Salbu on his appointment.
