The McCombs School Holds Top 5 Ranking from US News
Austin, TX - The McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin remains among the top five business schools in the nation, either public or private, according to the September 2000 issue of U.S. News & World Report. As in last year’s ranking, the School tied with several institutions for the #5 position.
Several of the School’s individual programs went up in the rankings this year. They are (previous year’s ranking): Marketing, #3 (5); International Business, #7 (8); and General Management, #6 (7). Other individual undergraduate business programs that were highly ranked include: Accounting, #2; Finance, #6; MIS, #4; and Taxation, #1.
“While these rankings are a far from perfect measure of a program's quality,” says Urton Anderson, Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program, “they do serve as an indicator of the overall perception of the program and a reminder that we must be continually vigilant in striving towards excellence.”
"We are always happy when the business school ranks higher than the football team,” jokes Arthur Allert, Assistant Dean for the Undergraduate Program. “But seriously, it’s very rewarding to know that our continuing efforts to provide the best business education possible are recognized by others. Considering we were able to accomplish our high ranking given our relative large size compared to our competition, it is all the more remarkable." The McCombs School produces approximately 50 percent of all of the graduates from schools ranked in the top 5 in the US News and World Report.
The marketing program’s ranking went up 2 places since last year’s report. This is a reflection of the department’s commitment to innovation and growth, says Dr. Wayne Hoyer, Chairman of the marketing department. “The UT marketing department continues its excellence in education by incorporating business practices (especially technology) into existing coursework, as well as developing new and innovative courses,” said Hoyer.
The McCombs School of Business is perennially ranked one of the top business schools in the country and world according to leading business publications such as The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and U.S. News & World Report. With strength across the board in all major business disciplines, McCombs is especially known for innovative collaborations with industry and for leading programs in technology, entrepreneurship, finance, and accounting. McCombs offers a full range of business education programs, from BBA and full-time MBA to Part-time MBA, Executive MBA, Executive Education, PhD, and graduate accounting (PPA/MPA). Under new dean George W. Gau, the school has set a goal of becoming the top public business school in the nation.
