Conference Prepares Women for Leadership in Business

EVENT: Women in Business Leadership Conference 2004, “Journeys to Self-Discovery.”

WHEN: Feb. 12-13.

WHERE: Texas Union Center, The University of Texas at Austin.

WHO MAY ATTEND: Registration is open to the public via the Web.

BACKGROUND: With enrollment of women in graduate schools of business continuing to lag behind law and medicine, this annual event gives women preparing to become business leaders an opportunity to learn from trailblazers and senior-level executives. Panels will address the personal and professional journeys of women in business, covering such issues as work-life balance, gender communication, and career choices between the profit and nonprofit sector, management, marketing, and finance.

The keynote speaker will be Ellen L. Keszler, president of Travelocity Business and senior vice president of Sabre Holdings. Additional panelists include

  • Kelsey August, CEO, Lone Star Direct
  • Mary Scott Nabers, president and CEO, Strategic Partnerships Incorporated
  • Ellen Wood, president and CEO, Virtual CFO
  • Victoria Rodriguez, dean, LBJ School, The University of Texas at Austin
  • Randi Shade, executive director, Austin Entrepreneurs Foundation
  • Margo Weisz, executive director, Austin Community Development Corporation

Senior-level executives will participate from a range of firms including Accenture, Bank of America, Booz Allen Hamilton and Phillip Morris USA.

The mission of the conference held annually at the McCombs School is to cultivate and enrich the MBA women's academic experience, enhance career networks for women, and recognize and celebrate the strengths women bring to corporate America.
