Why attend: Ambassador Engle recently completed a
thirteen-month appointment as management counselor of the U.S.
Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. He joined the Foreign Service (U.S.
Department of State) in 1981, following a tour as Peace Corps
volunteer in Korea. He has served in prestigious management posts in
Pakistan, Germany, Washington, Ethiopia and Cyprus. He also served
in Washington, D.C. as director of the International Cooperative
Administrative Support Services System, special coordinator for the
African Crisis Response Initiative, and director of the Office of
Regional and Security Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of
African Affairs. Ambassador Engle received the State Department’s
Leamon R. Hung Award for Administrative Achievement in 1990.
