Institutions and Innovations: A Longitudinal Study of Institutional Endorsement and Firm Innovation in the Pharmaceutical Industry, 1980-2004
Who: Francisco Polidoro, Jr., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Management
What: Faculty Research Presentation Speaker Series
When: February 26, 2008 6:00 p.m. FREE PIZZA!
Where: CBA 4.328,, McCombs School of Business, 21st and Speedway
Why come: Polidoro's research shows that during the
introduction of new technological innovations institutional
endorsements can both facilitate and hinder a product's legitimacy.
The more innovations that build on existing knowledge are endorsed
by the scientific community, the more difficult it becomes for an
innovation based on novel knowledge to be legitimated. The firm
introducing novel knowledge has incentives to seek scientific
endorsements to overcome institutional inertia in favor of existing
knowledge. To test his theory, Polidoro uses data on new
pharmaceutical drugs introduced between 1980 and 2004.
Who’s invited: Open to the public.
