Flyers are an excellent way to attract the attention of McCombs School students, faculty and staff. Make sure you get them approved before you post them.

The Daily Texan www.dailytexanonline.com

Who will see it? Mainly UT Students
When should I use it? Recommended if you want to announce the event to the student population. In addition, staff writers/photographers can possibly attend the event and write about it/include a picture to talk about the event.
Options:

  • Around Campus – A section of the paper dedicated to announcing events sponsored by registered UT student organizations and official programs and departments. Submit the request three business days in advance. You will be limited to three lines, so be brief and concise. This service is free. Access the on-line submission form from the upper right-hand corner of www.dailytexanonline.com. If you have questions, you can contact Katherine at (512) 471-4591
  • News Submissions – News submissions and inquiries can be submitted to the section editor via the following e-mail addresses. These sections may be willing to cover your event, especially if it pertains to a large student population.
    News – news@dailytexanonline.com
    Features – features@dailytexanonline.com

Austin American-Statesman www.statesman.com

Who will see it? The Austin community
When should I use it? This option will best be used if you are bringing a well- recognized speaker to campus. You also need to decide if you want the paper to announce the event or write about the event after it takes place.
In order to get ink space in a major newspaper, your news needs to be of importance and interest to its readership. It is difficult to get the attention of reporters, so make sure any information you send them is newsworthy and succinct. View a sample press release (Word Document)
Options:

  • Metro and State Section:

Anita Powell, Higher Education – This section often makes announcements about the happenings at UT. This is probably your best option in getting an announcement in the paper.
