BHP Excellence Fund

Created by the Advisory Committee to the Business Honors Program in 2002, the BHP Excellence Fund will provide the students and the program with the resources to remain competitive with the top undergraduate programs nationwide.

A Vision of Excellence

To support the vision of a BHP well prepared for future challenges, we have created the BHP Excellence Fund. Dedicated to improving programs and strengthening the operations that support every aspect of the BHP, the BHP Excellence Fund will also help attract and retain the top students that can most benefit from the advantages of a Business Honors Program education.

The Business Honors Program

For nearly 50 years, the BHP has set the standard for delivering a business education rich in both academic rigor, student programming and professional opportunity. The 2006–2007 academic year saw a continuation of this tradition as the program maintained many of its previous initiatives while expanding others.
This year the BHP was able to maintain the impressive caliber of its latest freshman class while making significant strides in increasing the number of students admitted from underrepresented minority populations, with a particularly successful four-fold increase among the number of Hispanic students admitted to the program. This change is largely attributable to the addition of Realize McCombs—a minority-targeted day-long event during which the BHP and McCombs jointly hosted 50 applicants and their parents.
Among current students, the BHP community continues to earn significant numbers of campus leadership awards and has taken first place at case competitions from Los Angeles to Thailand.
Other BHP initiatives include a new summer study abroad program developed specifically for honors students and an expanded freshman kickoff where incoming students spent three days together in New Braunfels over Labor Day weekend to build connections with their BHP classmates.

This is just a small sampling of what the BHP has accomplished over the previous year. With your continued support, we look forward to many more successful years of growth as we pursue our mission to offer one of the nation’s premier undergraduate business educations.

The Value of  Your Contributions

As an unrestricted resource fully dedicated to the advancement of the program, the BHP Excellence and Annual Funds give the program access to direct funds as needed. This is vitally important because of the constantly shifting business and academic climate. Your gift will guarantee that the Business Honors Program at the McCombs School remains one of the most challenging and rewarding programs at the school and a continued asset to the University and the State of Texas.
Contributions to Make-A-Mark, a senior scholarship campaign, and to the BHP Excellence Fund are placed in separate endowment accounts and the balances as of August 31, 2007 are $230,887 and $385,133 respectively. These endowments are expected to generate approximately $25,000 during the fiscal year beginning September 1. This cash flow is such that it will enable us to provide scholarships to prospective students as a recruiting tool.

Many of the students we admit receive full scholarships from other universities, so these funds are important in keeping the best and brightest students in Texas. Our vision is to increase both the total number of scholarships we award, as well as the overall value of each scholarship amount.

Donation Levels

To recognize our generous annual donors, we have created the following recognition levels. Every gift is a welcome contribution to the success of the Business Honors Program.

    Doenges Fellow: $5000 and up

    Founders Level: $1000 - $4999

Honors Level: Gifts up to $999

Giving levels do not include corporate matching.

Doenges Fellow Honors

The Doenges Fellow gift level honors the late dean Conrad Doenges and his dedication to undergraduate business education. Dean Doenges was a man of vision who helped build the BHP into a world–class program, and this special giving society celebrates those lead donors who share in his commitment to the ongoing development of the BHP. Become a Doenges Fellow and join other individuals committed to the long-term success of the BHP at The University of Texas at Austin.

Gifts and McCombs Matching

Your gift to the Business Honors Program has the opportunity to be multiplied through corporate matching and through the McCombs Matching Gift Program. Your company may be one of over 1,000 companies that match employee gifts to academic institutions.
All gifts to the BHP are reported on a fiscal year basis (September 1–August 31).
Those gifts totaling $5,000 or more are eligible for Doenges Fellow recognition level.
All BHP contributions count toward recognition in the Hermes Society, Littlefield Society and the Chancellor’s Council of The University of Texas System. All benefits and recognition in these societies are included. Gifts of cash, securities, gifts-in-kind, and other property are also welcome, and all your gifts are tax deductible.

A Return on Your Investment

Your gifts along with the McCombs Matching Gift Program have brought total contributions to over $400,000. Interest generated from the fund has helped support such initiatives as:

  • Recruiting and retaining the top business students nationally and internationally
  • Expanding the visibility of the program to ensure national prominence
  • Sponsoring BHP students to attend premier case competitions around the world
  • Providing resources for students and faculty research and teaching initiatives
  • Funding and maintaining dedicated classrooms, and upgrading technology for the BHP
  • Enhancing academic leadership and development programs for BHP students
  • Hosting alumni area chapter events
