We extend a huge “Texas Welcome” to accompanying guests as you visit Austin, Texas. A special experience awaits you, and we hope that you enjoy the touring options available in this area while you are here.

As the capital of Texas, Austin is a city where visitors can experience a broad variety of exciting opportunities. Austin is named the “Live Music Capital of the World” and it combines the cultural arts, rich history and architecture, state government, The University of Texas, high-tech industry, outstanding restaurants, sporting events, lakes and hill country scenery. The proximity to San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas, makes Austin an ideal city from which you can plan excursions after the conference.
 

Guest Fee

We want you to be part of the main social events at the PIM conference. The guest fee of $75 (plus tax) includes the Opening Reception at UT’s world-famous literary and cultural archives, the Harry Ransom Center, as well as the closing Gala Dinner at the Bullock Texas History Museum. It also includes breakfasts with the conference registrants.

On Thursday evening, there is an optional “Explore Austin” evening event that you and your conference registrant can participate in together, if you wish. More information is available on the “Explore Austin” tab of the web site.

We also encourage you to explore Austin and the region at your convenience, and with that in mind we have provided a number of suggestions below. Historical Walking Tour of Austin

A free guided historical tour of Austin for individuals or groups no larger than 10 and who are staying in an Austin area hotel, covers Congress Avenue and East 6th Street, the Bremond Block, plus the Texas State Capital Building. Tour time: 9:00-10:30 (1.5 hours) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday tour is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Departure: South side entrance of the Texas Capitol Building. Segway tours in Austin and Austin Duck Tours

For a fun and unique tour of downtown Austin on a motorized duck “mobile” you can enjoy Austin Duck Adventures with a splash into Lady Bird Lake for the finally. “Austin in 90 Minutes” - An Introduction to Austin

A 30-mile tour to experience “everything Austin” This exciting tour introduces you to the spectacular magic of Austin’s urban scene, “hip” shopping districts, live music, history, culture, outdoors, local art, Hill Country vistas and lakes. Regular scheduled tours at 10:00am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm daily. Tours depart from the Visitor Center at 209 E. 6th Street. No minimum number of participants required. Hill Country Tour: Thursday, October 22, 2009

A beautiful scenic drive through the Hill Country to visit Fredericksburg and Becker Vineyards. Settled by German families in 1846. Fredericksburg is located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Activities include shopping, museums, historic district walking tour, herb farm, wildflower farm, vineyards, pubs, and art galleries. Have lunch at one of Fredericksburg’s fine restaurants. Becker Vineyards is located in a replica of an old German limestone barn. This winery features Rhone, Burgundian, and Bordeaux-style wines. These award-winning wines are available both for tasting and for sale in the Tasting Room's gift shop. The Tasting Room features an antique Long Leaf Red Pine bar in Moravian German design. Visit the Lavender Fields and take a winery tour.
